Five Beside (Lucky Coin)

Postby Salt » Jul 20th, '07, 05:44

My performance of an effect by Micheal Ammar. He uses a coin to find the card, so that's why its called Lucky Coin.

I was expecting you to be using a coin in this trick lol .... but, oh well

Anyway, on with the trick - I think it was performed very nicely but it's a very simple trick with a very simple method. However, you'd probably fool alot of laypeople with this, so overall it's not too bad  .

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

Love this trick.

I used to have a friend in school who did this effect. He dabbled in a few simple card effects. I did this effect to me so many times and I couldn't figure it out! He told me how it was done after a while :)

I like the ace thing at the end. I used to perform it like that, but I produce a flush instead now :)

Thats how Ammar originally performed it, using his "lucky nickel".
MICHAEL AMMAR'S AMAZING SECRETS OF CARD MAGIC DVD- look for the effect "My Lucky Nickel"
At least I do beleive thats the one he means.

Hellow yellowsocks

But it was performed very well, and I like that cut shuffle at the start. Very nice looking.

This is one of my favorite effects, never really bothered using the aces at the end though. Nice touch.

I saw this trick performed a long time ago on the 'stuff the white rabbit' tv shows. Instead of finding the four aces, the cards counted onto the table formed the spectators phone number.

I believe it went something like this:
1. Spectator chooses card.

2. Card is lost and one card is magically turned over.

3. Turned over card is not the spectators card. Magician says: i know that, but this is only a marker card, and it marks .... cards (if i would do this with a dutch phone number, the card should be a 10 because dutch numbers are 10 digits).

4. Count 10 cards onto the table face down and turn over the 11th card. It is their card! Now thell them that not only did the 10 find their card, it also found a royal straight flush of spades along the way. But you screw up with the rest of the trick, when you turn over the 10 cards on the table there is no royal straight flush to be seen anywhere. Now look disapointed and say, ok, i screwed up the trick. :( You know what, I'll practice it some more and then give you a call when i can do it right. Is that ok? Can i call you at ...... (point to the 10 cards on the table and show them it's their phone number).

Just the same trick, but with a different ending. And works best if you can get the number from someone you don't know and then perform this trick to them. For example if you work in restaurants, ask the manager of the restaurant for the phone numbers of people who made reservations, then perform it at their table.

Do you mean a straight flush A-J, because that would be better than just any old flush

It's normally a Royal Flush, or a Straight Flush from Ace to 5, I just couldn't be bothered writing Royal FLsuh :P

What do you use for zeros in the phone number?
It would seem a bit messy if you have to explain that the kings equal zero during the reveal of the number.

Well, for zero you would have to use a 10 or a picture card, or you could put some jokers in the deck.
I used the picture cards. When you say, can i call you, is that ok? Can i call you at ...
At that time you move your finger along the cards while naming them, so you say for example, can i call you at 1485 318 402? . Now when you move your finger over the picture card, you just name it zero, so you don't have to explain to them a jack, queen or king is the same as zero.

Also for the part where the marker card should have found the royal straight flush, after you turn over the first 5 cards (if you would use 10 cards) say something like, ok, no straight flush yet, so the last 5 cards should be it.
Or if the marker card is a club, you could say it found not only your card, but also 10 other club cards. Just what you prefer. I always used the royal straight flush. (also check if the spectator even knows what a royal straight flush is before turning over the cards).
