Run For Home

Postby trickyricky » Jul 22nd, '07, 00:15

Hi guys. Just wandering if anybody else here is doing the Run For Home tomorrow?

Its a charity thing by Heart FM. We get dropped off about 100 miles away and have to get back to Edgbaston Cricket Ground without any money or mobile phones to call people. Its for the First Steps Appeal. Should be fun! We raised £450 in our group alone!

I was born with Multiple Personality Disorder. Luckily, they are all me, they just dont always get along...

Is it marathon-ish or survival-ish? it sounds like fun, are you alone or with a group?[/quote]

It was actually a one day event. We finished in 6 hours and 53 minutes but due to time penalties, our final time was 7.08.

The main part of the day was getting back to a location (Edgbaston Cricket Ground) from a secret location (which turned out to be Buxton) without the aid of money or mobile phones. So basically, stick out your thumb and see how far whoever stops can take you!

There was also a treasure hunt at the start (wrong or unanswered questions resulted in 5 minutes being added to your time), a checkpoint stamp (if missing resulted in an addition of 2.5 hours to your time), and confirmation of a password given at the beginning of the day (if missing a 30 minute penalty is received).

We did the whole of the treasure hunt (with 3 wrong answers), got the checkpoint stamp, and got the password. Ended up being one of the last groups to get a lift but far from last group to get back! As far as we could tell, there was a lot of cheating going on with people who had obviously arranged lifts and missed the point of the entire day, which was quite disappointing. But it turns out that they were lucky by just finding one random person to take them the entire way! Lucky b******s! We were walking for the first 3.5 hours!!!!

Total at last check raised for First Steps Appeal: £103,000!!!
