my second night at the magic circle

Postby rvoice100 » Jul 24th, '07, 09:53

ok, so i was a guest for the second night, so am going to have to take my exam soon! arrggghhh!

Last night was the summer school, and the subject was TT's.

Richard Pinner started things off with the kowalski bill switch with some interesting changes and performance tips, next up was Ali Bongo doing a lovely Gypsy thread routine, third up was Paul Abbey with a great coloured ribbon routine and last but not least fay presto with a ring to crisp packet routine and her dry white wine piece, the performances and explanations were top notch, this was held in the devant room, which is surrounded by window displays of some of the most amazing things! for instance, houdidnis water trap, letters from houdini, tommy cooper's props, among hundreds of other things!
We then headed down to the bar where Paul Abbey (my mentor) introduced me to some of his friends, i was in complete awe as these were people i had been looking up to for a few years now,
After chatting for a while i popped down to the museam for a look around, after having a chat with Lionel, the curator, he let me into the inner sanctum, im not allowd to say what is in there, but oh my good god it was incredible, there are litrally hundreds of priceless items, beautifully kept, it was such a priviledge for him to open it up for me, ill never forget it!
after that, i went up to catch up with the others and we all went for a meal, it was so surreal sitting eating and drinking with the likes of fay preso, Ali Bongo, David berglas, Richard Pinner, Max Somerset (max magic). another unbelievable night!!! now, i just have to pluck up the testicles to go for my exam!

That sounds amazing! I was in the Magic Circle HQ earlier this month for an event which was fascinating. I too loved all of the exhibits in the Devant room and spent ages in awe of the place.

You're extremly lucky to have been in the inner sanctum - that seems to be so closely guarded. The closes I got was the other side of the door whilst going to the museum :(

Anyway, the best of luck for the exam - I'd love to hear how you get on - please PM me or post to keep me updated!

Regards,

Stuart

I visited earlier in the year when I was in London and called around to collect an application form for membership. The lady that I spoke with on the phone was at lunch when I got there and there was a coprporate booking going on in the afternoon that they were setting up for. I was asked inside to wait and got talking to one of the guides who gave me a tour of the building. It was fantastic and I felt really privileged.

Anyway, after the tour I took a seat in the hall on the ground floor to continue waiting and was talking to the guide when one of the organisers strolled up and asked if she could see some magic as she hadn't seen any before at close quarters. The guide performed a ring and chain routine and she turned and asked me if I could do anything. Having a deck of cards in my pocket I did an ACR which I was pleased with.

I was even more pleased that I could say that I had actually performed at the magic circle

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!
