Decent Swamis?

Postby Lord Freddie » Jul 25th, '07, 12:53

The only 'c' type swami that I seem to be able to get hold of these days
are the ones that are packaged with the Sam Dalal booklet and I find these to not be of a great quality as they break easily and the lead is very finnicky to replace.
Can anyone advise me of a UK site/shop which sell decent ones that are a bit more durable and are more convenient to refill. I use one quite a lot and am getting through them like Michelle McManus does cakes.

I don't want to encourage flaming, but I advise you to try and move away from nail writers and try a boon writer.

I think they're described pretty well in 13 steps.

And, the best thing, you can make your own for your own requirements.

If you don't fancy making your own:

The Black Beauty Kit from Ronjo is very nice...a scarab boon...

but lord freddie, you might shudder, as the site is American...

i use those P.O.T.s from magicshop.co.uk a fair bit too, bit fiddly to change the "ahem" but is achievable...4 for a tenner...

Thanks chaps. Being left handed and cack handed, I'm not very good at making things, but boon seems the best way forward.
I don't order from US sites as I prefer there to be some form of communitcation or number to call to sort out any problems.

Seige, am I right is thinking that some m*******s w*x and some l**d would make a good home-made boon?

I have a boon. Its supposed to be advanced technology but I could have fixed it up in seconds myself

Yes Lord Freddie, essentially you could you use mangnetic wax and lard and attach a shim rod under your skin, it stays in place not just because of the magnetic force, but also because of the pressure of writing against that pad.

I hope that code was clear enough for you

I have tried the boon writer but I couldn't get used to it although I will certainly recognise that it would be a good choice for some people. I far prefer the under the nail writer. However for some reason I think the Sam Dalal writer needs improvement. And to make matters worse just lately they have been painting them white which makes them slip off the nail easily. I do believe they are going to stop doing the white paint thing though.

I don't like the fact they expect you to fix the lead in yourself which irritates me intensely because I am no good at fiddly things like that.

On the positive side I like the fact that the price is so cheap. It is really good value since you get around 4 gimmicks and an excellent booklet from Sam. In fact the booklet alone is worth the price and it almost (but not quite) equals the step put out by Tony Corinda.

I think it's definately worth trying a boon, though.

My particular writing style is bold, heavy and yes—I'm the bloke who always rips through credit card receipts when signing them. So, a boon is a lot more natural for me.

The problem with half-moon nailwriters is that there are so many cheap versions around that I think people can get easily get put off by the poor performance of them, i.e. lead falling out, bending of the gimmick, having to have particular shaped nails etc.

Give boons a go. You'll either love them or hate them.

The EXACT reasons my swamis 'dont work'!!

White paint - falls off easy
With nails longer than the wicked witch of the west I still cant get it to stay in place

I may opt for a TT swami, maybe that would work.

I don't use a NW much, but I finally settled on a Vernet's boon. A bit pricey, but tiny. Plus, being a boon, you can anchor it anywhere.

Although I have no problem using the nail writer, as Mr Lewis said, it's VERY fiddly replacing the lead and quite a frustrating task.
The white colour does seem a rather odd choice when flesh coloured would be much better.

I think I'll try out a boon and see how I get on. It's suprising how many magic sites don't sell any kind of swami writer at all.
Considering it's such a useful item which when used correctly can produce miracles in the specs mind, you'd think more stockists would have a range of them.
