Decent Swamis?

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think it's time to try a boon.

After a number of months trying out different ways of making them for myself, I think I've finally come up with a decent method that works pretty well.

I'm not sure how much I'm allowed to reveal here, but it uses the wick holder from a tea light candle. If the powers that be say it's okay I'll tell exactly how I make it.

^^MEMBERS - ^^ Big, BIG pointy thing to this!

Nameless - I'm not sure that you actually need to say any more!

Those members who know what a Swami is will already be wetting themselves at your suggestion; classic case of lateral-thinking, and I applaud you (oh, and I'm standing on a chair whilst doing it  ).

Seriously - inventive post of the year; well done mate :D

Aren't those wick holders quite big?

Yes. It's been suggested before.

Even though they're crimped at the bottom, you need quite a big piece of l&&d in it.

Close, though.

They're big, but the larger area gives a lot more stability, which was one of the problems I was having with other methods.

I use a thin knitting needle to 'un-crimp' them, then dip the special item in a bit of epoxy resin and put it in the hole (there's one for innuendo bingo!), then if needs be I nip it back up with some pliers.

Once the glue is dried, that sucker isn't going anywhere. Combined with the larger base area you have a very sturdy gimmick. I also find, the shorter the special item, the more control you have.

I use Sam's nail writer. When I started using it I always got this strange look from the audience, a pencil, why the hell is he writing with a pencil. No-one I know uses a pencil.

Stick a small screwdriver or your Swiss army knife in the tube holding the lead, sorry, should that be lard !! Twist it a touch to open the tube and remove the lard.

Get a Bic biro, pull out the tube holding the ink and cut it off just above the metal nib part. Shove it in the tube on your swami and tighten the tube with your army knife (pliers bit).

You now have a swami that writes in ink and stops people wondering why the hell you are using a pencil which went out in the 60's.

I'm still working on the fountain pen version
