Please forgive me if I shouldn't be doing this, but it is my effect so I do not see anything wrong with it really. Enjoy!
XL 2007 (X-Treme Levitation 2007)
By Michael Kras
Effect: The magician, draping his jacket in front of his legs, levitates up to 6 inches in the air!
Preparation: I will now teach you how to make the simple XL 2007 gimmick. The materials you will need are:
1. One metal coat hanger
2. Black paint
3. One paintbrush
4. One sports coat with a silk lining
5. Wire Cutters
6. Pliers
To begin, use the pliers and your bare hands to completely straiten out the metal hanger. Once it is as straight as possible, once again use the pliers to create a small hook on one end of the hanger. This hook will pierce the lining of the jacket later on in set up. On the other end, bend a larger piece of the hanger inwards, stopping when it is at an approximate 130 degree angle. This end will hook into your empty shoe later on.
With the wire cutters, if necessary, trim the coat hanger to fit your leg length. To finish, paint the whole thing black. This will hide the hanger in your jacket.
To set up, use the small hook to pierce the lining of the jacket. Once the end is in the lining, bend the hook flat, so it will hold in place. At this point, the larger hook at the other end should be on an angle directly on it’s side inside the jacket. Put on the jacket and you are set to go!
Routine: To begin, approach a group of spectators and remove your jacket. When you do, be extremely careful not to flash the inside of the jacket. The left thumb will hold the gimmick against the jacket so it does not peek out the sides of the jacket. Lower the jacket, gimmick in towards you, down to your feet so it drapes over your shoes.
Once the jacket is in place, secretly remove your right foot from its shoe, and with your right thumb holding the gimmick, maneuver the gimmick so the larger hook is pointing towards the spectators. It is at that point that you will hook the gimmick into your empty right shoe.
Leave your right foot on the ground and lift your left one while both hands lift the jacket, the right hand still holding the gimmick. Keep your balance for as long as possible, as you should now be balancing on your right foot while you lift your left foot and your hands lift the jacket with the gimmick. Also, raise yourself up, so you are balancing purely on the ball of your foot.
To finish, lower the jacket and gimmick as well as your left foot. Once on the ground again, quickly remove the gimmick from your right shoe and place your right foot back in. Conclude by whisking the jacket away and simply either draping it over your shoulder or replacing it on your body.
