What's going on?

I would just PM this, but I don't know who to address it to. You can PM me an answer and then delete this post.

Why does the thread on magic changing someone's life keep getting deleted?

It might have something to do with you clogging up the board with inconsequential questions like that EVERY SINGLE DAY.

You might as well have asked "What's your favourite humming noise?"

Repeatedly.

You might have noticed that noise threads like that are now being deleted without a word and not even sin binned. If you're p*ssing people off so badly that the mods can't be bothered to tell you off... I'd say tread carefully.

It's unfortunate that other member's posts are getting deleted simply because they're in the the same thread as Michael's. Maybe something to think about Michael?

Well being as he was the one that started many of the topics, its your risk when posting in it. Thats what your whole question topic is on, is it not.

I thought the people at penguin held a grude and were childesh... and thats a forum full of kids.

I have to admit my ignorance, but I'm simply not sure what the precise implication of that statement is...

To my way of thinking, though, had I not seen, with my very own eyes, Mr. Kras's "One Man Parade" in the pages of The Linking Ring, I would swear - quite literally put money on the fact - that young Mr. Kras is a troll.

Now, that is a serious indictment. I admit that fully.

However, consider the ramifications of a troll actually being able to achieve such a thing... That would be worthy of a statue in any magic clubs building. It would be an amazing accomplishment and a testament to the finest magician amongst us.

I think, and I'm not trying to be funny, that the perfect analogy to the whole situation was when rvoice100 posted the video on this thread. I can honestly see me throwing that board, pieces flying everywhere, opposite Mr. Kras (who bears a striking resemblance to that actor) having brought me to such a state of such frustration.

I am being brutally honest here.

In conclusion, I just want to say that I feel the moderators' pain.

Mike.

There shouldn't be a risk in posting an appropriate post in the proper thread. I didn't know I needed to make sure who created the thread to see if it was ok to post a reply.

Alright then, I see what you all mean, and I will refrain from posting any threads for the time being.

Mr. Jay, what do you mean by "troll"?

Mike.

Its not directed toward every one, and not ment to be toward just Kras.
Its the forum in general. This is still one of my favorite forums, but its changed alot in the last few months; from a very helpful place to a place of arguing and yelling and such. Even I have taken part of it.
Some of it was in good standing, some of it wasnt (goes for all of us).

I believe, and have told Kras, that he should just take a break from these forums. Give it rest, let it cool down.

But as Josh pointed out, one should not have to risk posting in a topic just because of who started it or posted in it. I agree. But the mods like to use their powers for "good". I didnt see any problem with Kras post on magic changing lives- except for the fact that its a topic he started. I guess the mods decided to cut down on his topics, whether good or bad. Whether their judgment is good or not is not my place to say.

Hope that made sense.

David,

Thank you, it all makes sense... I am still pondering Mr. Jay's rather hateful post though. Could someone please explain it?

Not "hateful" to my way of thinking, young man. Just very, very honest. It's what I see (or, how I see it, if you will).

Thank you for the explanation, David. I fully understand.

Mike.

Whilst I can understand that posts suddenly disappearing can be perplexing, some of the reasons why this happens have been touched on above. In a nut shell:
a) There is a limit as to how far some posts can go before they become way off topic, insulting or just plain stupid. At, or before, this point, we have to do something about it to minimise the PMs of complaint which arrive – and arrive they most certainly do!
b)There is no official arrangement about advising or warning about such threads being deleted, more often than not there isn’t sufficient opportunity to give such warning and it may give any ‘offenders’ more opportunity to post even more of the same. Sometimes posts go off topic and it in't practical to just edit out the bad stuff so the swift way is to remove the whole thread.
c) Floods of posts by one member, or floods of similar, duplicated posts by several members just clogs up TM. A considered decision has to be made in those cases and inevitably threads will be deleted.
d) We’ve tried having a ’hands off’ policy on at least two previous occasions and it didn’t work. Far too many nasty posts, verbal sparring and juvenile posts were the result. As such the Mods will continue to delete items which, on balance and using the best of their judgement, need to go.
e) Bear in mind that the Mods have families, full time jobs, perhaps regular gigs to perform magic, and other interests so there are occasions when there is only time to nip in, make a swift assessment and take action. We would certainly like to sit back and enjoy TM like most members do but it’s a luxury when we don’t get to enjoy very often. We get a large number of PMs regarding MO accesses, queries, requests for advice and many other matters so we’re not just sitting here reading the posts and snipping out the ones which are ‘iffy’ A great deal goes on in the background which the membership will never know about or be involved in but it does take a lot of time. We all try to make editorial decisions fairly and by taking all factors into account but we appreciate that inevitably some members will not be happy about this.
f) If there are serious concerns or if it’s strongly felt that the Mods have acted inappropriately them please send PMs to ask and, where possible, we’ll try and explain the reasons more fully.
