Koran Deck / Mind Power Deck

Postby It_Came_From_Space » Jun 1st, '05, 20:40

Hey

Does anyone own these two effects, Koran deck is priced at £7, a version called the Ultra Koran Deck is at £10 (Card Collection, Bond Agency) and the Mind Deck is roughly £20 anywhere.

They both seem to have the same effect, does anyone know any different?

Im a bit cautious about getting a Mind Deck as they arent Bike's and i would be suspicious of any magician switching decks as they wouldnt switch if it wasnt for a purpose, however ican get a koran deck in bike's.

Any help, comments or reviews of both would be appreciated, ive already searched for both on the boards by the way but they werent too helpful :(

Did you search it as 'mindpower'?

I suspect you didn't find this, as it covers some of your points.

The Koran Deck is similar in certain respects, but there are added subtleties with the Mindpower Deck. The biggest downside is them not being on Bicycle stock, but that thread discusses this aspect.

Koran Deck / Mindpower Deck

Postby Rennie » Jun 3rd, '05, 03:17

I do own both of these decks and they are not similar at all. My preference is the Koran Deck as it is way easier to perform. The Kennedy Mindpower deck is a little confusing but a really neat effect.
With the Koran Deck the spectator has a free selection of a card and you by asking a few simple questions are able to predict which card was selected and I may add very easy to perform. The Mindpower deck is "NOT " examinable, where the Koran deck is "kind" of examinable.

I've always been a fan of the Koran Deck - they can be handled much more freely than a mindpower deck, in terms of shuffling and spectator handling, and so on.

Having said that, the mindpower deck has the big advantage that the mental selection can vanish (as in Derren Brown's effect "Smoke") and attention can be called more freely to the faces.

At the end of the day though, when doing mentalism, I prefer to use the cards as little as possible, and draw attention to them as little as possible, and in that respect, the Koran Deck is perfect.

Liam.

I used to use the 'old' horrible MOONS MP deck disguised as bikes, and it worked really well.

Here's a great tip with this effect: don't ever perform it to an audience who are touchy feely. The only time I ever got caught out is when I spread the deck and without even asking a spectator to take a card (i.e. JUST THINK OF ONE), a drunken plonker reached in and grabbed one. I guess it's just instinct really, but it ruined the whole thing.

Ho hum, accidents DO happen I suppose. Although no matter how hard I wished, that pillock never did accidentally trip up and break his nose !

i have the JK MP deck on Bike great gaff deck. yes Seige, accidents DO happen, but i have been lucky, after performing Smoke, with the usual response of 'no f'in way', in a pub, to some workmates, the guy i performed it on snatched up the deck and began to spread them in his hands, i almost panicked, but to my great relief, he failed to find both the gaff, and his card, although he spread through them about 4 times!

a good way, which I learned from this incident is to spread the deck, exposing as much of each card as you can, as close to the spectator as you can, it 'ups' the wow factor.

Get Gaeton Blooms videos Planet Bloom and watch his presentation of an effect called "Immortal". He explains this trick in detail and he uses a Koran deck to force a card. The effects that you could come up with using the Koran deck are limited to your imagination. Immortal is a strong trick with a strong reaction from the spectators. Check it out.
Cheers
