Poker Chip Effects

Postby Mikey.666 » Jul 15th, '07, 14:16

Hey guys,

Two nights ago I got a couple of poker chips out, and started practicing some coin sleights with poker chips. I found it to be quite different from 2ps. They slip easier, and I find them harder to p**m etc because they're bigger.

Anyways, I started thinking about a poker chip routine. I sat down and jotted some ideas. I came out with a rough plan and put it into practice. Basically it's a poker chip transposition, where you put it in your pocket, but it keeps on returning to your opposite hand. This happens twice, then the third time it changes from white to blue. I then say that's because the white one is in my pocket. I then pull another blue chip out my pocket, and the previous one has turned white again. The chips then change place, and change place again in my closed fists. Then I ask a spec which one they would like, lets say they say blue. I give them the blue one and tell them to close their hands. I bring attention back to my chip, which has changed to blue, now the spec has the white chip. This then happens using two specs, so it's totally in their hands. I then take back the chips and I am still in the process of thinking of a ender.

So that's it basically. What I just wnated to know if there's any effects using poker chips like this out there. I searched all the big online shops, along with some smaller ones, but I found very little poker chip effects, none like this.

Any ideas?
Cheers
Mike

There are a fair few chip tricks out there, although the name of them escapes me. Off the top of my head Ian Kendall's "Basic Chip Tricks Made Easy" may be of interest.

Poker Chips

Postby Amanda Angeli » Jul 15th, '07, 16:06

Hello,

I use poker chips for all of my coin sleights instead of coins. Basically, I love poker. The chips I use are wooden and from the late 1800's. They're slightly smaller than most clay chips, and of course, they are lighter.

I use clay too, after all, that's why you find out there in the casinos, but wood are my favorite and what I use for home games and what I carry around.

So, basically anything you read in Bobo or anyplace else can be done, of course, as well as what you come up for yourself.

Personally, I love mixing a combination of card sleights with the poker sleights since my game is Five Card Draw and both tools are part of the game. Thus, I bring them wherever I go and practice anywhere and everywhere.

Now then, the key to truly using them in a game, if that was ever your thought, is that you have to make your card handling and chip handling look average or even below average, even though you really know exacly what you are doing. So, it keep it simple requires true art, yet, of course, flourishes and such are a great way to practice to acquire the dexterity for finding enjoyment in the apparently easiest of movements.

Good luck with you act, it sounds wonderful.

Love,

Amanda Angeli

Rich Ferguson has a DVD on Poker chip tricks, although I think it's mainly stunts/moves with them, as opposed to magic, but I've not seen it.

You can also get special gimmicked chip effects, mainly to replicate coin tricks.

There is an effect called "Freewill" I replaced the props provided with poker chips and reworked the patter to a gambling theme. I use it all the time table hopping

I nice four chip flourish is in The Art Of Astonishment book by Paul Harris, and it's called The Betz Poker Roll.. It would be a fantastic lead-in to some sort of Matrix effect.
