Magicians wax

Postby kingkongkyle1 » Aug 6th, '07, 14:14

I just bought a block of magicians wax but it's yellow! it's a bit annoying as it's visable on cards, am i supposed to do something to the wax so it goes clear on cards?

Jees louise!

How much are you using?

Most wax is coloured, but you need so little of it that it's usually transparent.

Yes, use less of the stuff! Sounds like you've been a bit generous with the application.

I hardly put anything on the card any smaller and it gets stuck behind my fingernail but it's still visable. It's bright yellow.

Where did the wax come from?

I've had about four or five different magician's waxes, and none of them were THAT vividly coloured!

The wax I use is pretty much invisible, is it an old block? Does wax discolour over time?

Besswax isn't the same as magician's wax - it's main use is for treating wood, polishing furniture and so on.

AHHHRGGGHHHH

Bees Wax ain't magician's wax.

If you're referring to that ghastly photo that floats around websites of a hexagonal yellow puck, then don't go any further.

Proper wax is translucent.

Stories you may read about 'DIY Magician's Wax' are a pile of old dogwash. Getting the formula right is a nightmare. It's far easier to buy the 'real thing'.

The boys are right, I use bees wax for the mouth piece for my didgeridoo and it really isn't the same stuff as magicians wax.

Did you buy MAGICIAN'S WAX (marketed as such) or BEESWAX hoping it was the same?
