getting recognized

Postby Marcus » Aug 7th, '07, 03:01

I was at the bar saturday night, at the front of the line. We had to wait untill a few people came out to get it. And to my surprise, one of the bouncers shouted "OH! check it, David Blaine". He must have recognized me from a different party or something. I thought this was pretty cool, especially since he said if I did a trick we could get in right away. (i did the switch, which was made popular on David Blaine's Street Magic, I felt it appropriate. lol)

Keep in mind i don't do any shows or have ever been on TV, in fact, I've only done tricks for the public <-- people I don't know, about 5 times, including that night.

So has anyone else been recognized for your tricks? Cause I kinda liked the effect it had on my ego and my confidence. Can't wait for it to happen again, makes me feel like a celebrity. lol

Just thought I would share that with everyone, it seems like an important part in any street magician's career, which is something i hope to have one day.

I am not recognized for my tricks. I am recognized for me and me as a performer.

But thats cool that your being noticed, and using it for a good cause.

I too have used it to get into bars. 8)

Well clearly, they don't recognize the tricks cause you're not doing them, they recognize you. We are recognized as people who perform magic. Your friends recognize you for you, audiences recognize you for your performance.

IE:Your friends say "HEY DAVE"
Others say "Hey, you're that guy who does the magic/or those tricks" or whatever.

I'm not trying to argue, I'm just really bored, lol
and thanks for the post.

I do apologise for bringing this up, but you've not read the forum rules... which explicitly asks that 'txtspeak' abbreviations are not used in abundance in your forum posts.

You see, your computer keyboard has all the letters easily laid out for you to use. Unlike a mobile phone, which generally uses a mulit-touch process for letter entry.

Words you've abbreviated such as: UR = You're, U = You and PPL = People are ugly to read in the context of a forum.

Any chance you could tidy it all up? It's just style-less laziness to be honest, as most other complex words you've written in full, which makes no sense at all.

Thanks.

Strip away the cosy fluffy exterior, and you'll note sheer sarcastic elegance ;)

Maybe it wasn't text speak and he was talking about magic from the ancient Mesopotamian[1] city of Ur...

I get recognised a lot locally because I play a lot of parties. It can get a bit annoying if you're out having a quiet sup and someone wants you to go and show their friends something. You feel like a performing seal, but you never know who it is, so it makes sense to play nice. You get the odd business card or phone number to go and pay another party, which is good fun with fringe benefits

[1]Yay! I spelt Mesopotamian right first time!

i get kids coming up to me and telling me what they want for there birthday, not the best thing thease days when i kid leaves there parents to follow me, thankfully most parents reconise me too so i don't get arrested.

mostly i get "magicman" called out by the kids and the kids have lots of reasons why i walk with a limp, mostly because magics so draining and he's been doing magics for long time.

Magic does have that effect on people,

I remember the first time i performed on a street (i dont tend to enjoy it feels like busking to be honest bit dirty for me but anyway!!!!!)

First time i did the next time i was there i found lots of people remembered me for doing magic

the line saying they remember you as a performer nd not the trick is rubbish

people dont see you again and go hes a performer a really good one! i dont know what he done but he performed!

they say hes the guy who does magic.

Also i do agree with the text speak on forums, but thats because im from england and prefer the language to be typed correctly (im no king of grammar)

i think it may of been nicer to send someone a private message regarding it though? kin of seemed out of place in the context of the post? or would that not have got the right reaction?

Pointing the fact out in public re-enforces it.
