Name the effect!

Postby Tubbycranker » Aug 8th, '07, 19:47

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me.

I'm looking for an effect. Very similar to signed card to wallet but the magician has a wooden box which is placed on the table before the effect begins. Something like an ACR routine is performed, then the card appears inside the box which has not been touched.

Am I going mad or does such a thing exist?

If anyone can advise as to where I can get this (or if it even exists) I'd be really grateful.

Thanks in advance,

Stuart

Now i think one version was discountinued, i think jb magic used to have one in the shop as well.

You may mean the tommy wonder routine as he did a famous peformance of this.

Yep the original "Mystery box" is still sold in numerous versions at John Kennery's site.

An alternative would be just card sleights, the only thing that the "Mystery box" offers over classic sleight of hand is that the card can be displayed in the box before removing it, but it still offers the same effect.

If your not familiar with it, look up the "Mercury Card fold".

This is Tommy Wonder doing exactly what you describe:

I could watch this all night!

He discusses the "box" in Books Of Wonder, and I also believe its on his Visions of Wonder DVDs!!

I've seen the video before, but like you I could watch over again and again.

He's so charismatic in his perfomance.

I think I'm off to buy me a mystery box now!!!

Just in case you're wondering where to get this effect from, Tommy Wonders version is in the Books of Wonder vol 1 ("The card in the ringbox" pg 141), which I shall review some time this week.

Well the Mystery Box is all fine and good, but in my opinion its not worth spending that amount of money on an effect that can be done without a special box.

The same sleight is involved, all that is better is the fact how you can show the box empty afterwards.

Its a bit of an expensive elabourate item in my opinion.
