Handling R&S cards is just down to practice. Try adjusting the amount you squeeze the cards as you fan them.

Does anyone know where to get an ID for less than £6.99?

I lost mine and it just seems pretty expensive now that I know how it works etc.

You can get one from Penguin for under £3 at the current exchange rate, but then you have to pay postage charges so unless you're placing a bigger order there's not much point.

I don't think £7 is particularly expensive for an ID when you consider how much it would cost you to make your own. Not to mention the time it would take you to do it.

I know this has been done to death now, but I thought I'd wade in as well. As a complete new-comer to magic, I wasn't sure what to expect from this, my first purchased prop. Nor was I sure that it could possibly be as easy as everyone thinks.

Within five minutes, I'd got the hang of it. Within ten, it was near-perfect. I find it hard to imagine another trick with an effect so strikingly out of proportion to the simplicity of the method. Although, of course, I am new to all this.

In short, I reckon this has been an excellent first purchase for me, and I would recommend it to any new-comer in doubt of their own ability to pull off a spectacular trick. You might just surprise yourself!

The ID is great and although I used to perform it as an effect in itself, I find it much more useful as an 'out'. It's good to have back up, just in case. Though I have only used it once as an out when a spec forgot what (forced) card they had chosen. I then told them it didn't matter as the first card to come to mind will now be their card. One quick deck switch and a miracle ocurred!

With the ID there is a couple of great versions I love to use.
One of them is I use a stacked deck. I get them to put the deck behind there back, select either the top or bottom card and place it upside down somewhere in the deck. When they bring the deck out I get it off them and place it aside, as I do this I glance the bottom card, and that will tell me which card they have put the wrong way. Then I pull out my ID ,fan through them and show them the face down card. Then I get them to look at the other deck at the card they turned over whilst it was behind there back. The card obviously matches up. That works great.

If you guys know the Zarrow shuffle and have heard of the trick "Triumph" You can also do that with an ID.
And also versions of phill plus. The possibilities are endless.

Hey, just found this other ID thread after posting in the other other other one.

I love the ID, it's a real mystifier. I performed the trick on my toughest critic, my wife. It was the first time she said "wow!" in response to one of my performances. She's still bugging me to tell her how I did it. Sorry dear, I took an oath.

The basic performance is you shuffle an imaginary "invisible" deck of cards, then have the person you perform for cut or shuffle the imaginary deck. Ask them to pick out a card and tell everyone what it is. Then you take the "card" and turn it upside down before returning it to the deck. Slip the ID in your pocket, say the magic words, and pull out a real deck (which was hiding there all along of course). Fan it out. Every card is face up but one. Spectator pulls out that card, and lo and behold, it's the one they selected from the ID.

It's very easy to perform and works every time.

I'd love to hear from others any variations in performing this great trick.
