Magic trick that makes you feel stoned?

Postby naomisleeps » Aug 10th, '07, 08:51

I was volunteering in New Orleans when a magician named Belinda Sinclair came by. She did some card tricks with me one on one. A few minutes into the routine, I felt like I was stoned out of my mind and I'm pretty sure it was part of her act. No one believes me when I tell them about it. My question: was it heat stroke/temporary insanity, or is this possible? If it is, is their a name for it?

The effect is 'Wishful Thinking', by Nara Carticks.

It is possible to induce drug states without having to ingest the actual drug itself - but it is quite an involved experience. You'd know for sure if it was happening to you.

I don't know the act, but by the sounds of it I'd say it wasn't intentional and it was you more than it was her.

I was just about to google 'Wishful Thinking Nara Carticks magic' then realized it was a joke.

From my limited understanding of suggestion it's possible to make someone feel like they are under the influence of drink or drugs, but this seems rather pointless in the context you have described.

Why would someone show you some card tricks, then make you feel stoned, but not mention it? It is possible that something else was intended and didn't go right, but I just can't see what would have been the aim.

It is also possible that, somehow, the conditions that day made you feel like that, but a more simple solution is that that someone spiked your food or drink. Sadly, it happens quite a lot in the UK.

I sometimes get overcome with that kind of feeling of being stoned, but generally only when smoking funny fags, or when I start to try and understand string theory

Impressive, and also a hypnotist.

I'm familiar with something similar that Derren Brown did, but I think you would've known something was going on.

I would say it was caused by A) talking to a charming young lady or B) inhaling the air in New Orleans 8)
