Rules Clarification?

Postby Part-Timer » Aug 13th, '07, 13:50

I was going to post a reply to the recent thread http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic20605-0.php, but now that it's been moved to the SinBin, only moderators can post on it. Sorry for the new thread.

Is it worth adding a new rule, or amending an existing one, to make it clear that apparent secret hunters will be dealt with by the moderators and it's not for the rank and file membership to take it upon themselves to have a go?

I recall reading that procedure before, but it's not in the forum rules. There is a rule prohibiting abuse, but I don't think any of the posts in that thread went that far.

A new rule has been added today:

12. As a member, you are asked to refrain from any form of belittling, deflammatory, hostile or punishing remarks towards new members. Authority at TM is in the hands of the moderators, not the forum members. If you believe you have been treated unfairly, or have reason to believe that comments aimed at you by a forum member are unjust or accusatory, please contact a moderator via private message.

This follows a complaint from a new forum member who feels they were badged 'an idiot' before they'd even had time to defend themselves.

Vigilante users on this forum will not be tolerated.

Alrighty.

Thanks for the update on the new rule. I will follow it duelheartily.

I will no longer post in topics along that line.

David

This wasn't aimed solely at yourself. It's been brewing for some time, and unfortunately you were the first offender.

If this felt like it was personal, then accept my apology.

You were right to jump down the guy's throat, but it's nice to put yourself in someone's shoes before doing so.

It seems that, like yourself, I jumped down your own throat... which in turn was doing nothing more than the pot calling the kettle black.

My apologies.

I too apologise, as it wasnt not my place to jump on the guy at this forum.
IT is alright at other forums, but this isnt other forums.

I will never let it happen again by me.

Instead, if I see a post like that I will pm its link to you or another mod.

90% of the time, this is exactly what happens. We even have some regular 'pillock spotters' amongst the membership who keep us alerted. Usually, one of two things happen when a member alerts us to this kind of post, and the last resort is post removal and ban.

Sometimes, it's necessary just to re-read the post, as clarification can sometimes be given.

All this apologizing is just sticking right in my craw...
