Magic is a drug. The magic dealer is the supplier, the performer is the pusher and the layman is the victim.

I've certainly taken to carrying around a few 'favourite' coins (I quite like £2 coins, and those old 10ps which are about the same size). Similarly, I'll tend to have an ID or normal deck to fiddle with during the day.

The most significant thing I've noticed is the decreased amount of sleep I get now that I've taken up magic. When I settle down in bed for the night, I find myself pondering new and interesting presentations for tricks in Bobo and RRTCM.

Perhaps I should enforce a 'no-magic' week. Time to unplug for a while. Let it all percolate.

I've taken to carrying around a deck of Bikes, plus envelopes, cards, and a pen in my bag :)

Not much for big reactions :)

I carry cards, but I never perform card tricks, i practice xcm and flourishes everywhere, really passes the time well (sucks when your in line for starbucks and you drop...) If someone sees me fanning or cutting or whatever and says "Show me a trick!" i never do a card trick, i pull out Alex Linian's Punctured or Revolution. Punctured is great because the effect isnt anything that has to be magic (like vanishing or teleporting). It very well could be that I actually shoved a pen through a quarter.
thats why I like it

I tend to only carry my cards when i know im goin some place i can do card tricks(ie a pub or the mall) but i don't bring them to work because i work construction and they would get ruined. my friends have ll seen 90% of my magic so if i am out with them i always ask if they mind if i start doin magic to other people, its not that I'm concerned that they mind its just that i think its polite

I carry a deck of cards with me, and can normally get hold of a pen wherever i perform so i dont take one. Occassionally have a loop on my wrist but only very occasionally. I have been known to hide cards in places in other peoples house before, but most of the time its forgetfulness. Must learn how to produce a goldfish from a playing card!

I was born with Multiple Personality Disorder. Luckily, they are all me, they just dont always get along...

Yeah I know!
I have found it the most relaxing day dream, thinking about new presentations or how I can blend tricks into one another.

And I thoroughly enjoy practising! This is a new thing, since I've always hated practise. Perhaps this comes from those things we were forced to play in music lessons at school.
I have a few musician friends, and they always enjoy practising their instruments. Maybe this is the key.

I'm a bit more discreet with my cards these days, sometimes I just don't want to be bothered by drunks. I know that sounds awful, but I'm always polite to people. Sometimes I just like to sit and stare into space when I'm down the pub, you see.

There is an old joke about Magicians annonymous. Kind of like Alcholics annonymous.

1st Magician: Hello, my name is Steve, I'm a magician and I'm proud to say that I have not performed a card trick in two days now.

other members: Steve that is great, congratulations...one step at a time.

2nd Magician: Hello, I'm Bob, I too am a magician ever since I have decided to devote at least one day a week away from magic my life has drastically changed for the better I actually know what is going on in the world outside.

Other members:...woo hooo way to go Bob!

3rd Magician: Hi I'm Larry and I've been a magician for five years and only recently I realized I had a problem. Just last week I was really depressed so I hired a prostitute for the evening. I took her up to a hotel room and she got undressed...so I showed her the coin matrix I've been working on.

Other members:...ohh Larry

Good grief that strikes a chord.

I have just got back from the shops, having been dragged round the perfume counters by a female friend of mine. Naturally, we were given the usual perfume sales pitch.

Right there in front of the assistant, and without thinking twice, I picked up her pile of sample cards and started shuffling them.

Oh my god.
