What is the name of that effect?

Postby resilientarmadillo » Aug 16th, '07, 09:29

Hi,

In the BBC programme "The Real Hustle" in one of the cut sequences or the credits or something he runs his fingers across a fan of about 5 cards and they change into other cards as he does so.

I was wondering if there is an effect similar to this and whether it is contained in any books or DVDs that I can buy.

I thought maybe it was done through camera editing and I worked out a way it could be done using gimmicked cards although it just looks too smooth.

Any ideas?

RA

There are two versons I know of. Zapped and Fan-2-C. I have Fan-2-C and heard it is significantly better than Zapped.

Zapped - http://www.thetrickery.com/?nd=full&key=6729

Fan-2-C - http://www.rpaulwilson.com/circleofconfidence2.htm (scroll down)

I have Zapped but not Fan-2-C. Zapped is quite nice and very visual but cannot be examined. Judging by the advertising blurb on Wilson's website and other favourable comments by TM members, I would go with Fan-2-C. I may even get it myself :D

For the sake of Eleven quid, this looks to be a must-have download (Fan-2-C, that is!) - look at the flexibility of the gaff, as described.

Sorry - just off to search the reviews section on this ebook - back in a while

Sadly, there aren't any real reviews as such for Fan-2-C her on TM, but I've had a potter in the reviews section of various suppliers and 'other places', and....well....suddenly there was this PayPal screen, and a weird sense of Deja Vu

Just had a brief skim read - oh, boy...this is NICE

Once I've got eveything made, and had a good old play, I'll get a proper review posted up :D

Same here. I've just made mine up and it was quite simple (even a six-year-old could do it!) Like Rob, I will post my thoughts on this soon; at first glance, it looks very nice indeed. And with 52 pages of ideas it represents superb value for money.

Hmn, I like the cleanless of Zapped, in the sense that you show your hand empty, change the cards with little fingers as possible and you end empty.

Whilst Fan-2-C is more versatile if you wish for the cards to be examined, or just regular cards.
It can even be done in a spectators hands.

Wow, thanks everyone! I did a little searching online and inadvertantly stumbled upon an article revealing the secret for zapped. Even though I hate people who reveal tricks I'm kind of glad I came across it because it made me realise that I need to buy Fan-2-c as it is instantly examinable.

Given that it says it comes with a booklet and gimmick and looking at the other applications of the gimmick I think a I can pretty much guess how it works, but still, I think it's a worthwhile investment. Especially with people going crazy about poker at the moment, this is going to get great reactions performed at tables in bars and clubs - gotta be a winner!

Bear in mind that the "booklet" is a PDF file that you need to download. It is not a physical, paper booklet. You probably knew that, but just in case you didn't.

I've had a chance to produce my own gaff and had a look at some of the effects. This is really quite impressive stuff, especially for the price. 52 pages detailing numerous applications for Fan-2-C gaff, some of which are not so obvious - quite ingenious. This is just great. Image
