'Morning folksies :D

For those of you who haven't spotted the thread that spawned this Poll, it can be viewed here!

We have our final list of member recommendations, which can now be voted on above.

For those of you unfamiliar with any of these, here's the relevant links:

THE FINAL LIST!

Screwed deck

Die Cipher 2

Full Facts of Cold Reading

Far Sight

Apocolypse

Close to Death

Absolute Magic

Mystery School

Anneman: Life & Times of a Legend

(Freddie very kindly also suggested books from the Tarbell Course, but I'd want my purchase to be 'complete', and the entire set would sadly fall outside of my £70 price limit :( )

So - that's the round-up - just a week of voting to go, before you guys get to spend my hard-earned dosh

Obviously, I'd like to see as many votes as possibe and - if you do vote, I'd be hugely grateful if you could add a line or two, outlining why you chose the effect that you did!

Let the fun begin :D

Thanks for all your help chaps!

Rob

EDIT: I've already placed a vote, just so I can view the results as they come in - please don't let my choice (Screwed Deck) influence yours though

My vote is for Bananafish's suggestion of Die Cipher II. A versatile prop that will last a lifetime and which you can work into countless routines and presentation styles. Much more than a one trick wonder and a real fooler too. Go on... you know it's the right choice!

Cold Reading - perhaps the only "trick" that is truly impromptu, needs no resetting, can be performed anywhere, needs no props whatsoever, and indeed can be used on its own to create a career (ask John Edwards - allegedly)! And when done well will have a bigger affect on the spec than any other trick this side of raising the dead!

Thanks for the votes so far chaps - could you please remember to add a couple of lines, in a normal reply, to let me know why you went with the choice that you did (it may help sway future purchases! )

Thanks again!

I'm going for the Annemann book. You get your money's worth. It will take you about a year to read, and then a lifetime to digest. There really are some gems in here.
Unfortunately I can't vote for it, because its on your list, but not in the poll.

Arrghh - I left Anneman off the Poll Options...and I'm not able to edit the poll :(

I'll have to count the votes for that in addition :?

Indeed... there's only one UK eBay auction of A.M. at the moment ;)

I can't believe nobody recommended Tomo's 'Strip' DVD... or am I just entering this conversation to late!

Absolute Magic if you can get it. If you can't, Full Facts of Cold Reading cause it's a very good, comprehensive guide to this skill which, as Osterlind points out, you should learn even if you don't do any readings because it will help you with your presentation and mentalism in general.

Im going to go with Apocolypse. I think there is such a wealth of effects contained within that it will last you a while. It is only one volume of 5 however but theres is TONS in this book.

Otherwise, I would recommend a book I dont have but do indeed desire: The Full Facts of Cold Reading. I can see its potential.

My vote was for Die-cipher 2. Based on the fact that it's a simple effect but with good presentation, can be built to be very strong.

Will you be giving us an updat on what you buy and how you get on with it?

I went for Absolute Magic because:

(1) I am not too familiar with several of the others.

(2) I really do value this book very highly, it will help you enhance the way you present many of your existing tricks and effects, so can be considered good value even at the excessive prices people are asking for it these days... an item's worth is only limited by what the buyer is prepared to pay.

good luck with your decision Rob, quite a fun and interesting way of doing things.
