The Effect

Opium Coins by Sasco

Cost

Approx. £20

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

1/2

Review

A pair of dollar coins are shown in the hand and by flicking the coins over they now appear to be a pair of Chinese coins with a hole in the center. Actual coins look good if handled carefully.

Overall

Quite a nice coin trick and very easy to perform, only problem is coins are not examinable which can spoil the affect.
Could be used as part of a routine and done properly looks quite convincing.

Im resureccting an old thread here so apologees for that but I thought I would add my 2 half dollars to this effect.

The Effect

Two American Half Dollars are clearly displayed at the finger tips of the magicians hand. The hand is closed around them, yet when opened - both coins have transformed into Chinese coins with holes right through them. Only two coins are used. No switching.

Cost

£22.50 from International Magic

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

This is as easy as it gets so it's all about performance

Review

Now firstly yes this can probably be achieved with a copy of bobos and plenty of practice but I needed an opening effect to use tomorrow so a gimmicked effect it is.
Now to be honest not alot can be said about this effect apart from it is well made and it does exactly what it is made to do.
I only actually bought this over my lunchtime about an hour ago but have already performed this twice to two groups, one swore at me and the other were just as amazed.
Obviously with a bit more work on my own presentation of this I feel this effect could really become part of my working set.
The instructions themselves come with 2 routines, the one described above and a cigarette through half dollar that then turns into chinese coins.
Finally you should be aware that when purchasing this you have a very easy, visual effect but it is also a very quick effect. You would be hard pressed to squeeze more than a minute out of it.
I will be using them as an introduction effect in walkaround and table magic e.g "Excuse me are these foreign coins yours by any chance??.....how about these chinese ones".
I would then go on to introduce myself

Overall

I'd give it a 7-8 out of 10. This wont suit everyone as it is a quick one trick pony but it does the job well and requires absolutely no sleight of hand.

£22.50 seems like way too much for this.

Sorry if this is pushing exposure, but is this just a couple of Chinatown Halves?

I'm not sure as to the method behind china town halves but I know international magic sells that set seperately.
