Beer Mat Trick

Postby cbyron2003 » Aug 18th, '07, 10:10

Does anyone have any ideas for an impromptu effect i can do with a beermat.
For some reason i always find myself playing with beermats when im sat in a bar but usually end up just shredding them.

Shred them to small peices, then perform the voodoo ash trick...

Or you could try the restoration of a beermat...

Long time since I did any Bar mat work.

Embedded coin in Bar mat.

Chosen card written on Bar mat. Or Embedded, or even Card inside Bar mat.

Coin moving on a bar mat.
Just a few off the top of my head.

The 3-beermat monte? Or cut and restored beermat?

"Pick a beermat, any beermat!" Then do an "Ambitious beermat" routine.

No, to be serious, I think some mentalist type effect with stuff written on beermats wouldn't go down badly, with some patter about the power of alcohol maybe, hehe.
Signed beermat to [insert random place here] would also be an idea. Then there's coin through beermat, for example.

In short, there's lots.

An old one I did many years ago was the production of a banknote from a beermat. I haven't a clue where it came from. I was doing it 15yrs ago.

Get someone to pass you a beermat, say you think it is one of the new prize beermats, fold it and then dip the corner in your drink. Pick away at the wet corner and a brand new 20 pound note appears, only if you've got a special promotional beermat of course 8)

Why not just use the beermat as a prop?
Could write a prediction on it, could use it to cover a card or coin, or just in place of a card.

Perhaps combining it with a glass, it could be used to cover it so you can then penetrate mat with say, a coin?

'tis nice.

Like Tenko said, when I am usually in a bar or restaurant looking for magic, pulling out a note from one always seems to fill audience's faces with glee.

I have the note folded up and palmed, then after some patter about "Oh, have you seen these new beermats? Some guy I know won a £5 note (or whatever you have) in one the other week, sometimes they hide 'em inside to promote stuff!" (Or whatever).

Then, fold the beermat in half, slip the note in as you do so, then fold the mat into quarters.

I personally don't dip the corner into my drink, but you can if it makes the effect more magical. Then you just have to simply pick at the corner bit by bit (ensuring you do it layer by layer so you won't rip the note when you get to it) and pull out the crisp money as your spectators marvel!

"WOW! I actually won for once! I never thought he was actually telling the truth!" I say.

Then you sit back and watch as others make a terrible mess and everyone starts to rip up beermats :D :D

OK, i new here, but this seems like you are actually telling us how to perform the trick.

Can you please edit your post as to not revealing the magic... thanks

Coin unique was MADE for Beermat penetrations.

For maximum effect try to load someone ELSE'S beemat prior to performance (just make sure it's someone who doesn't usually play with thier mats  )

How about using beer mats rather than cards and perform one of the many versions of "coin matrix"......you could also use it to produce a business card for a spec rather than a bank note when the ask for a card...simply have a card ready to roll and go on cue as you would with the money production.

I am thinkin out lout here but I may try to do Vernons "twisting the aces" routine with beer mats rather than cards.....trying to visualize if any of the handling needed would be impossible with beer mats.....off the top of my head I think it would work just fine!
