Brook Test vs. Impromptu Book Test vs. Naked Book Test

Postby kitaristi0 » Aug 21st, '07, 17:33

For now I'm perfectly happy with my standard Hoy book test, though both the Brook Test (by Paul Brook) and the Impromptu Book Test (by Josh Zandman through Outlaw effects) have aroused my interest lately. Both have been getting great reviews, and both Paul and Outlaw are known to make very good, high quality products. I was hoping someone who has them both could comment on which they think is better.

As far as I know, they are both impromptu, though while IBT uses two books, Brook Test only uses one. To me only using one book seems better but I could be convinced otherwise. OTOH Brook Test is twice as expensive.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Edit: How could I forget the Naked Book Test? I'm going to be getting Naked Mentalism in a month or so, so is it worthwhile to still get either the Brook or IBT as well, or should I just stick to the NBT?

They are both very good.

I loved the Brook Test, but it isn't something you can get and start working quickly. It's very clever, though. It is also not 100%. If you're really a mentalist (generally) that won't bother you. Same with Tomo's Naked Book Test, really. Absolutely amazing, gimmick-free stuff.

There is a bit more to this, but I'm sorry, it should remain secret to anyone who's not bought the Brook Test.

I'd say that, if you're relatively new to the field, get the IBT. Trust me on this.

Ah well if you're getting Naked Mentalism you'll get a description of my book test in there too :D

Seriously, Naked Book Test is very very good but will take some time to learn and get the presentation correct.

naked book test for me, but i am biased... :P

love the concept, try it by text message too...if you get a hit, a pure remote viewing experience...you can't be accused of doing anything shady, cos you're not even there...

well worth the effort...

You're all very kind.

I'm actually working on a fully scripted Naked Book Test at the moment amongst other things. It's a script to learn, so it should lower the bar considerably for anyone wanting to get Naked (oo-er, missus). It'll also cost a lot less than Naked Mentalism.

My over-engineered and entirely unworkable plan for world domination involves an army of pseudo psychics running around the place reading minds in their birthday suits until society trembles before me, you see.

Ahh, now you've moved the goalposts!

The Naked Book Test is excellent. Tomo's book has a couple of big advantages over the Brook Test. The first is a discussion of various 'naked' concepts for mentalism. Very interesting stuff, and I loved it. Then there's the book test itself. The main advantage being that it can be done remotely. No prep work, no cheats, no real restrictions on what the spectator reads and you don't even need to know the book or magazine, let alone have a copy!

The downside is that it might be ever so slightly little less reliable than the Brook Test, but I'm not sure there's much in it. I can't really say which is better from that point of view, and I might be wrong in my instinct. The other thing is that, in one way, the Brook Test could come across as a little more interesting. You should, of course, always build up an effect, and I do not, in any way, think the NBT is a weak effect. Quite the opposite.

I can't really say more than that, without tipping methods.

I think the NBT has the edge on the Brook Test, but both are fine products and I am not only pleased to own both, but happy to have plumped up the coffers of the authors!

But...if you're interested in impromptu book tests, have you thought about Marc Paul's AAA Book Test?
