Do Experienced Magicians Walk Around Grinning all the Time?

Postby TargetZero » Aug 22nd, '07, 22:52

I am new to Magic and never really perform a set routine for others but I thought I would share my recent experience when I did.

Over a couple of days I did a short routine for a temporary worker from my office (If I got shot down I felt it wouldn't be so bad as she is leaving this week and it would increase my confidence!!)

I performed Coin thru Soda Can, Signed Business Card to ID Case in my Wallet, Prediction to Wallet, Prohibition, a couple of card mysteries and a few mentalism effects from The Unexpected.

All went down really well and I was left grinning like a Cheshire cat to myself for a good while after performing.

If I feel like that as a new comer having only performed a small handful of effects- I was wondering how experienced Magicians who perform to an audience must feel like? (Bah,why did I leave taking an interest in Magic so late in my life..........)

When I return from a booking that has gone well, I'm always buzzing and it takes a good couple of hours for me to "come back down" - particularly if it's been a stage show that I've been fretting over! It's not unusual for me to jump into my car after a gig and start whooping like some Texan. Very embaressing, but it has to be done! :D

BTW - don't fret about the age. I'm 43 and have only been professional for 3 years. Best thing I ever did!

That's EXACTLY how I feel  Sometimes the car gets home afterwards on auto-pilot as you have a million and one things buzzing through your mind afterwards.

Absolutely it's got to be the best feeling in the world when you have been out and had a successful night. You feel on top of the world until you get home and the bloody missuss start's moaning about something or another and then your back to reality.

I never sleep when I get back from a gig! I find myself laying in bed playing it all over in my mind until stupid-o'clock!

It's the same when I'm learning a new effect, or when I've drank red wine.

Any time I perform and it goes well I'm always left grinning from ear to ear. It's a massive buzz and great feelgood factor for me. I'll alaways go to bed thinking about the performance and reliving it just like Carlos.

Afterall the main reason for performing for me is the enjoyment I get out of it and the feeling I get after it's gone well.

I tend to react the same as the people above but I also tend to dwell on moments where it didn't quite go as I'd wished or think about that group that either didn't want to see or didn't really get into it.
When my missis has come with me however she gets a running monolgue about how it went all the way home. She rarely complains bless her

When I say she rarely complains I mean when it concerns magic. She is a woman afterall.
BTW she isn't my wife yet as we are still both quite happy.
