MySpace promotion

It seems as though in the entertainments industry (magicians, comedians, hypnotists etc) are using Myspace a lot more these days for advertising.

Does anyone have a site they use only for publication of their skills as a magician? I'd love to check it out and see how many free advertisements they blast all over the place. If they are kept to a minimum - i may just hope on the band wagon!

Cheers,

Alex

I've been thinking about using MySpace to promote a little sideline I'm planning on introducing to my various revenue streams. I'm setting up something called "Haunted Dinner Parties" (or similar), with the idea of tapping into the dinner party circuit in London and the M25 corridor. I'll pop along to their gathering, read tarots, do a bizarre routine, and perhaps even conduct a ouija board/seance depending on how brave they're feeling.

Anyhow, I don't fancy forking out (just yet) for a big fancy website and I'm not keen on adding the Haunted Dinner Party service to my existing site for fear of scaring away my pink & fluffy wedding reception clients. We wouldn't want them thinking I was weird, now would we? So I wondered if MySpace was the answer?

Now I know that some folk will say invest in a nice new website if you're serious about this new venture etc., but the way I figure it is start small and see how it goes. If it begins to show promise, then I'll invest in a new site. However being a total novice when it comes to MySpace, faceBook etc., I really am not sure where to start. Any ideas would be most welcome!

Hey Mike - thanks for that! I may very well take you up on that offer - most kind. I guess the first step is to actually sign up to myspace?!

My magic gang has only had an active myspace for the better part of a week, and we've already got one offer of work as a result of it. It's still in the rough draft stages, and we haven't sent out too many friend requests yet, but as a way of getting free advertising you can't really go wrong, especially considering the small ammount of effort it involves.
Also, it's great to be able to post replies on threads which are basically thinly disguised excuses to try and get people to look at your myspace.

Oh, and on a completely unrelated note, why not check out

Edit: A few months away from university and it seems I have lost the ability to spell.

Cheers guys! I have now signed up to MySpace and have had a play around with it. I understand that themes for your page are freely available. Would you recommend these, and where do you get them from? TIA! :D

With changing the background you go to an external site which has free skins in which you copy the code and then paste into one of the details windows in you myspace profile.

http://myspaceskins.com is one of them but there are plenty of dedicated websites offering free myspace stuff

Thats not the way to do it, your myspace will look lik every other buggers then :P

www.mygen.co.uk

Go on to that site and it has a profile builder. It's very simple to use and you make your own background etc. It gives you step by step instructions on what to do.

If you need anymore help just PM me.
