Printing on flash paper????????

Postby Lord Freddie » Aug 27th, '07, 15:51

A weird request, I know, but I wondered whether anyone know if there is any kind of flash paper you can print on.
I've never tried it and assume that the heat of the printer would probably cause a dramatic effect that will impress no one but is it possible?

I have some ideas which would be great if this can be done.

I don't know about printing, but you can most certainly write on flash paper. I have spectators write on it when I perform Luke Jermay's 7th Deception. Would writing not work for what you're thinking of?

No, not really. I have written on flash paper before and that's fine but I wanted to print something I have scanned in onto it. I have ideas for some effects that could work really well (I hope) but unsure about printing on it.
I would like to know if anyone has tried it and what happened. I have seen flash £10 and £5 notes which I would imagine have been printed, but some kind of special process may have been used.

I'm not an expert, but from what I know of chemistry, flash paper needs a flame or spark to ignite. I don't think a printer could cause it to ignite. I just wouldn't recommend using a thermal printer, just in case. I think an inkjet printer would be ok. Again I'm no expert, so don't hold me liable for what may or may not happen to your printer.

On second thought you may want to wait for someone else to reply with actual experience in trying this.

This is how I printed on Flash Paper.
Printed out the picture on an A4 sheet, I got it so the picture was central to the paper.

I then used Prit stick lightly round the edges of the flash paper and placed it over the picture on the A4 Sheet. Put it back in the printer and hey it worked.

Another way I thought of but not tested.

Rather than use prit stick print the picture on the A4, then make a window with more A4 paper and slot the flash paper in. make sure the Open end go's through the printer last. Ok quick Blue Peter demo below.

I hope this helps.. :)

Thanks Mr Deck, I really want to print directly onto the flash paper, if that's possible as the effect I have in mind would only work if that was the case as it reveal something underneath the flash paper.

It's a work in progress with an idea I have which if printing on FP is a viable option would work just as I hope it too.

You could even selotape it down to the paper if your flash paper was a bit larger than you need, and then cut out the needed bit. I just don't trust printers when there's slightly raised edges. In fact I hate printers always.

What worries me about that is that when the flash paper ignites, the normal paper will be underneath and I want it to cover something and reveal what's underneath. (without giving too much of the effect away)

I wouldn't have thought that the printer would cause it to ignite but it's best to be sure. I know that you can buy flash paper playing cards so I wondered whether this was a different quality, maybe thicker flash paper.

:? I thought you just wanted to print on the flash paper Vision of Mother-in-law on flash paper

Some time ago I did print off a 9 Spades with flash paper and put it on a card with Blue tack. this was enough to hold it until the effect was done, The blue tact is removed when the "Panic" sets in lets say.

Other than that I have no clue on what more to say or do, think I'll have a coffe...lol

Thanks. I want to print on white flash paper, then adhere it to something so when ignited reveals whats underneath.
