It really doesen't matter what they saw it's what there going to see and if you pull your best material out on the night then they will reliase you are worth the fee that you requested and if you impress them so much you may even be on for a repeat booking sometime, so make sure you throw as many business card's out as possible because there is alway's the chance one of there guest's will book you for a gig aswell.

I have used a particular domain parking company for a few years to get addresses i use for various things;

http://www.freeparking.co.uk

You can get a co.uk domain name for a couple of years for a tenner and they have free hosting for up to about 4 pages i think with a website building wizard. It has some templates i believe. I can't say how good the templates are etc as i use my own server and build my own. However it does seem a cost effect way to do it if you're on a tight budget.

If you get your domain from them, when you're ready to progress to a better hosting option you can always just point it to that address or transfer it fully. It just means you can start up and keep control of your website address for the future.

I'm no expert on this and there may well be some good advice to follow from others. But, it's an option. £10 for an address and site hosting and then as much as you want to spend on a few business cards.

Hope that gives you some ideas

Well it's no more difficult than designing your business card really. Doesn't need to be fancy just a window to your services and a contact point.

alot of people over do their website, the cleaner, more simple the better. Just like your busines card should be.

(edit) just want to add, i don't mean it shouldn't be the best you can get, just that you can go without one or with one and you should be prepared. I forget how many people you said were going to be there but I'm sure you'll do a great job and you'll get the chance to influence all those people and their partners, children, family and friends when they tell everyone what a great night they had over the following few days. So make it easy for them to recommend you and make sure they know your name with an easy website address.

making a nice simple website is not as hard as it looks and the templates provided are easy to use. i know some magicians and illusion acts that have a one page website!

I think £200/£250 is about right. May I add somthing as well? Ok I will anyway...

50th anniversary Card for the couple, I did a 80th birthday a few months ago, I made a card out of paper verry rough, then said I could not afford a new card, then saying I was feeling guilty and putting the card "Box" then came out with a nice new card. I am not sure if you had thought of that "Giving a card" But for me it makes the day extra special for them and she still talks about it now to her friends. Also helps get you more Bookings

I hope this helps

beardy...you dont need websites to make yourself cash...i have no business cards, nor website...

just good word of mouth and one contact point...i just have one e-mail address for any "work"...suits me fine...

but then again, im not a working pro like some of the people here, but i make a decent dollop of cash when i do work...

though if you are going that way of wanting to go pro - surely five gigs at two hundred quid a time, that'll get you all the basics for setting up everything surely?

laptop/pc, digicamera, websites are pretty much free, or at least decent hosting is relatively cheap...you can get all that done for a grand start up easy...

you sure you're not just jumping ahead of brapper old bean?

haha

I',m hoping to have a decent site by Uni, to be able to do buisness cards e.t.c

also a way of givig me number to women without giving me number to women, buisness cards ;)

and yeah, 5 gigs would be more than enough...only this is my 3rd gig in 3 years... :P

I never was one to advertise ;)

people keep asking for my card...but I don't have one :?

plus...5 gigs would be enough...if I didn't spend the damn money on CUPS :D
