With regard to Lord Freddie's advice about performing for friends and family it is indeed good but be careful. As the Royal Road says your family will either say you are wonderful or that you are not very good. Neither may be the exact truth.

Unfortunately not. There were lots of magic shows at the Fringe in Edinburgh around that time too but these particular ones were at their/my hometown of Aberdeen.

a tip just practise wherever u get a chance, in the bus,train waiting for somebody, get a deck of cards and play with it... u don't even have to practise the tricks all the time, but it will help u just to get a feeling for the matter

I started with card magic and when I got into coin magic I never left the house without a half dollar and a pokerchip... just cuz so i can practise to get in and out of palms false transfers etc. after a while u start puzzeling them together and make your own simple routine...

With cards its exactly the same, don't worry about the looks people give u because as soon as u perform something simple but mind blowing (the simplest idea i have right now is the producing of a coin between 2 chosen cards because i always show that one to show them why i do magic... to create money ^^)

When I first started out, I felt just like you do: it sucks to be a beginner. I kept on persevering though and I am doing just fine now.

Whenever someone asks you what you want to be when you get older, they expect something like a doctor or a lawyer, somewhere around those lines. Everyone I told just laughed in my face and told me I could never make it. But you know what 7 years later, I'm living my dream and every time I get asked what I do, they may laugh, but I don't take it in deep at all.

Just remember this quote from Criss Angel (not exact, but same point):
