A bit of a strange one this, but here goes ...... .

The other day I replaced a pane of glass for a customer as it was cracked (I'm a window cleaner - and no I didn't break it before you ask ) and I charged her, what I think was, a very reasonable price. I smoothed all the putty off and cleaned up etc and called back round about 2 hours later to be paid.

When she came to the door - she said that the job wasn't finished and she pointed out that half the putty around the window was missing. Well I was lost for words 'cos I know that I def finished it properly . Anyway I re-puttied around the window and showed her that it was done and she then paid me and I was on my way. Whilst I was leaving I noticed some kids playing nearby so I thought I'd hang around a while and see if it was them that scraped the putty out of the windows - you never know, I might catch them in the act .

Well, it wasn't long before I was proven wrong - it wasn't the kids ........ a wild animal jumped up on the window sill and proceeded to eat the putty. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I ran over and chased the wild animal off, but it was too late - it had already devoured a good quarter of the putty. I knocked on the door and explained to the lady what had happened and if she wanted it sorting out she would have to get some more putty 'cos I'd run out, but I would be willing to re-putty it at no cost.

Well, she was livid - she accused me of trying to rip her off etc and is now threatening me with all kinds of legal action - all over some cr**py putty FFS !!!

Anyone got any ideas where I stand on this, 'cos she ain't listening to a word I say - and anything I do say she won't believe .

What sort of wild animal was it?

I'm not sure how she would claim you were ripping her off, you had nothing to gain from your offer. If anything you were going to lose your time in return for nothing but peace of mind of a job well done.

With no personal gain from your actions there is simply no cause for action on her part.

As for the animal, he might be able to claim a pocket full of laxetives because it's sure going to need them

Tell her that any charges against you would never hold up, and that (if she was stupid enough to take it to the mets) that she will have to foot the fees.

Leave it at that and don't re-putty it because she is clearly not greatful of your effort and kindness.

Citrus - read the post 2 above yours. I've editted it so it stands out more now .

The problem that I see is that we know it's an animal but in court she'll just glaze over that fact
