Magicians Wax Tip (the Beaye Way)

Postby Beaye » Sep 6th, '07, 12:35

Here is a tip you might find useful.
I have a big tub of wax and always transfered a little into a small mustard jar to carry around with me, but I wanted some way of making it even easier to get at.

Then it hit me......

I got an old Chapstick (actually it's some other brand but they are all the same) and cleaned the last of the goo out of it. Then I turned the base untill the plastic piece that pushes the stick out was at the bottom again.
I then filled it with magicans wax. I had to soften the wax by putting it in a plastic bag and submerging it in hot water. once it was full and had cooled down I had my new weapon.
It works great, it's small and easy to get at and with a turn of the base it comes back to the top for perfect access.

Hope you find this useful.....

Nice one Beaye. :D Can you use it inconspicuously?

Have you tried Corinda's idea of using a shirt button (it was a waistcoat button originally) to keep a secret stash?

You know, the type of button that has a slight recess in the centre?

Fill it to just under the brim and you have a few uses worth that shouldn't stain clothes.

Mark

EDIT: Just realised... I think he used it for daub, not wax. Did he use wax? And I don't think it was Corinda. Soz. I'll shut up.
It should still work though.

Great tip with the chapstick idea mate! Fair play for coming up with that one. Hats off to you.

I remember meeting a magician in Torquay, England a few years ago, and he had a rather novel tip for using magicians wax....i didn't use it at all....he discovered a much cheaper, more readily available substance to use in it's place.

I know you can buy these in the UK (not sure about the rest of the world, but im pretty sure you could) they are called "BabyBell Cheese"

It sounds stupid, but the protective wax they wrap the cheese in, is almost chemically identical to magicians wax. Its not the same colour sadly (its usually bright red!) but unless your doing a trick like card though the window - the spectators will never see what colour it is anyway.

The wax around cheese bears no chemical semblance to decent wax.

Firstly, it leaves residue. Secondly, it's rather conspicuous. Not recommended.

Why, Beaye, did you find it necessary to post your explanation twice?

You can't beat proper magician's wax as it has so many uses and is virtually undetectable (unless you use more than you need to).

Once you have softened it with your fingertips, it's very easy to apply to coins, cards, etc without leaving a residue. You can perform some stunning vanishes without any sleight of hand whatsoever and if used correctly it never lets you down.

I keep a small blob on a finger ring ready for use when I'm performing.
It's never been noticed.
