Andrew Mayne has a few stage effect plans you can buy and build on the cheap such as the voodoo box and the spector cabinet.

Gary Darwin's Book of Inexpensive Illusions is an awesome resource and then again, most of the stuff produced by Andrew Mayne that I've seen could qualify.
You'll also find some nifty ideas in Tarbell.

Yes it is.
Dont ask me how good or bad it is though as I have no idea. Stage illusions are something I have never dabbled in
