Hey guys. I started college a few days ago...it seems like it going to be an interesting couple of years.

I've decided to take a break from magic due to college. I feel I'm not going to have time for a lot of my hobbys, magic being one of them, so I'm deciding to cut out a whole bunch of things. I obviously will still be performing every now and then, if I feel cheeky and I'll still pop my head in the forum every now and then, but otherwise, you guys will have to have fun with out me for a while

I wouldn't be so hasty. Too much work and no play isn't good for you.
I'm a teacher, and I would advise against giving it up. Of course concentrate on your studies. Its two years that will benefit the rest of your life. But sometimes you need to be able to kick back and relax. A levels can be stressful, and you need ways to counter that.
I find magic somewhat therapeutic, as I'm sure a lot of people here do. By all means set your priorities, but one of your priorities should be staying sane throughout your studies.
And when you get to uni...well, that when you can really kick back, relax and concentrate on your magic .

And also, Mikey, if you manage to get some paying work doing magic it'll get you through college nicely. Well, it certainly beats working at McDonalds!

and don't forget - playing cards used to be taxed, cos it was seen as a method of making money...

why not use your skills, and further studies of magic to, as said - make yourself some on the side? plus, you're missing out on a great big load of people to practise on...

come on! royal road to card magic and some bikes...aint gonna cost alot...a little hour to yourself everyday...sorted!

Stop! Don't giv up...magic was with me all through university and paid many bills! You can have anice bit a of gear with you that does not take up a lot of space. Plus, there are very few people on campus who can actually do magic.

Reading from the above posts I get the vibe that people thing this is a bad idea

As I said, I will still be performing every now and then But for the first few months I'm going to put it to the side, while I settle in to college...I get 20£ EMA as well, and hopefully getting a job soon. I should have enough money for magic AND beer if all goes to plan

Your just now starting? Man, thats late.

but no, if you dont have to then dont put it on hold.
At first I thought I did, so my first semester I put it all on hold.
But once I got in the "colloge mode" I was able to bring it back on. I started performing and practicing. Time Managment is the Key word here.
I am not the best at that, but I still manage to get it all done.

Man, we started late August.
When is the summer break there start? As I noticed your not in America.

We have a small variation here from college to college. Example- Texas A&M Galveston started a whole week Later than Baylor University.. and they are only 4 hours away from each other.



Wait.. I jsut saw your age.. 41... are you going for a higher degree, a professor, or just happen to know the dates they start?

I'm starting college this year and I think I am also going to cut down the ammount of magic I do. But I'm definetly not going to postpone magic, im just going to change how I practise. Before I used to just practise whenever I was bored or was multitasking (i.e while watching TV, on the internet etc), now what I am going to do is set myself certain times when to practise, say Tuesday from 8 until 9 for a hyperphetical example. I'm also going to just practise when I can. For example I need to get a train to college and to pass the time I'm just going to play with my cards.

Also I find practising magic to be quite pheraputic (I think I got the spelling totally wrong!) and I think I'l find it along with my running to be something that relaxes me.

Certainly don't it slip Mikey, you've put far too much work into it to let it go to waste. For a young man at college, like yourself, you will find magic is a good way to get the ladies interested in you.

Readings, particulalry palm reading. That's the way to have all the gurls flocking around you. Beware of jealous males though, cos that reading magic is strong ju-ju.

Blimey how things have changed since I went to Uni. What's all with the work business?
From what I remember from my party fuelled days as a student the hard work element was confined to certain parts of the month with the majority spent in the pub or watching daytime tv.
Quite frankly all this talk of students studying hard worries me quite a bit. Surely you should be exploring political idealism 'fighting the man' , demonstrating against nuclear arms and taking mind expanding drugs.
