that routine is hysterical. But I don't use it in my routine for two reasons. First, he uses it and as far as I know it is his, second, I don't have have his energy. I do however use Judy the mouse in my routine, plays big packs flat.

hmmmmm - my dad has one of these racoons he never uses. Perhaps ill ponce it off him and see if i get anywhere with it. I notice that at least some of dave's routine is stolen 'i got it out in a restaurant and told no live pets' so he kills it. Perhaps he came up with that im not so sure.

So does anyone use this in a close up routine?? How would you go about carrying it? I imagine it can be produced fairly easily having it spring from your jacket?

Judy the mouse doesn't use a spring, is mouse sized and with the right movement can look very real for the first little bit, just like Rocky.

Puppets are an awesome tool for any of us... I am presently creating a puppet act employing three Axtel characters (slightly modified)... a Vulture that sees dead people; a stoned Skunk that sees lots of things because of the fungi he munches in the forest; and a "Diva" that gives Readings... and yes, they all fit into a Mind Reading show -- a full evening club act starring Victor the Vulture, Edgar Allen Poe-Kat and Ms. Clara Voyant... and of course, me... but no one ever notices the guy with the living cartoon on his hands :?

I've been cultivating this project for nearly a year now and the cast is starting to show up along side custom effects and scripts. That's where we get down to the nasty of it all... Catch a clip of Stan Allen (yes, the publisher of MAGIC magazine) with his bunny buddy Stew... it's a very simple, fluffy hand puppet Stan paid $30.00 for and because of what he does with this critter that can't talk, he puts audiences on the ground crying in laughter.

I got to work with and learn from the late Waylon Flowers during the last year or two of his life... this guy didn't even try to not move is lips in that it didn't matter, the public focuses on the puppet and when the handler knows how to give the puppet life and personality and the script is carved out appropriately, you end up with a winner!

I'll also suggest that those aspiring puppeteers keep their eyes pealed for the guy that just won AMERICA'S GOT TALENT...

cheers for the tips craig. Useful as always. Would you, however, be prepared to walk around with a small puppet for close-up purposes?

cheers,
Alex
