Having problems with chappy's watch steal -NEW! EDITED

Postby SpongeBallSlight-of-hand » Sep 19th, '07, 23:22

I got my DVD chappy brazil watch steal with chappy brazil and charles bach. I'm doing what was suggested in the DVD practicing on a towel. The towel is a bit hard to work with because it's squishy. As you can see, my watch removal is horrendous. I've been practicing it for only a few days now, but as you can see (if you have the DVD you'l understand) my hand doesn't cover the whole towel (which is supposed to be a wrist). In chappy's performences the hand covers the wrist at all times. I don't know how to do this. I've looked through the video everytime but as soon as you pull the pin out you HAVE TO it seems move your middle finger to undo the pin, and thus then the hand doesn't cover the wrist. Everything is in plain site.

Here's a video of me doing it. (Note: This is with a buckle type watch)

Here's a video of charles bach or chappy doing it:

sorry, but is that a steal? I am unfamiliar with this kind of thing and it just looks like a video of you taking a watch off

Yes it's a steal on my own hand. My parents won't let me practice on them..I'm having alot of trouble concealing the watch as I take it off, as you can see.

You're doing that all wrong.

Watch the DVD again, study the way the hands are around the wrist.

I have the DVD, PM me if you're still having trouble.

From the outset, you can't prtactice stealing a spectators watch off your own wrist.

If you can't get someone to help you, wrap a towel around a chair arm and place the watch on that. Next you need to decide the performance circumstances. Are you facing the spectator ala the Chappy Brasil DVD or are you standing beside them in a close-up environment. Both steals are completely different, and should be practiced as such.

On your youtube clip may I suggest you remove it as it gives the wrong impression. :oops:

SpongeBallSlight-of-hand;
It would be impractical and too complex to describe both methods on the forum. As I peform my watch steal as part of my close-up set, I am approaching people who are seated so I need to steal the watch from the left wrist of person seated on my right. In this situation it is impossible to use the face to face method employed by Chappy on his DVD.

To see a performance and full decription of the side by side steal you should should seek out a DVD by Jeff Hobson. he removes watches as he escorts people on stage by walking side by side with them. (I learned mine from Johnny Paul)

Sorry to be blunt, but your Youtube video makes me think you may not be ready to get into watch stealing just yet. You need to be confident that you will not get caught. (You want to keep your your fingers yeh?)
