The NUMS Campaign for Cheaper Bikes: Update

Postby seige » Sep 20th, '07, 10:39

To all you patient folk out there, the campaign is almost ready to kick off—unfortunately 2 months later than planned.

It's been a really busy time at NUMS... lots of new products in development, lots of research, bookworming and braincrunching.

The XAW waxes range really took a toll on things—quite unexpectedly—and this knocked the CFCB on the head a little.

However...

We've been secretly stockpiling Bicycle cards and the good news is that we will be able to offer BRAND NEW red or blue backed bikes for just £1.01 per-deck.

Shipping is reasonable too: the more decks you buy, the cheaper shipping gets.

The only downside is that the price only applies when you spend £10 or more in the shop, and I am initially limiting the purchase to a max of 4 decks per-customer, per-order. You may ask why... well: it's to stop people buying them off me and using me as a wholesaler.

As many of you know, NUMS is a practically not-for-profit company, which works on the basis that staple magic supplies should be accessible, keenly priced and more than anything they should be available quickly.

I am quite sure I am really going to annoy a load of UK magic dealers by offering the bikes out at £1.01, but hey, EVERYONE should be entitled to use a decent new deck of cards, right?

It will be a price drop of a permanent nature.

Obviously, it may increase with inflation, but so long as there is demand, I will continue to supply the cards at this price.

Before I had wholesale 'connections', I would buy cards in huge quantities. I love them.

I'd almost always end up giving a whole deck or two away if people visited, just so people had decent cards. I've even been known to send TM members freebies of new cards so they can practice, as I believe that a new deck of cards is ESSENTIAL in facilitating any progression in card magic.

So—you may say I've been hypocritical for selling cards at double that price in the past?

Actually, no.

Nine times out of ten, when I've sold cards, I've actually lost out on postage charges. Swings and roundabouts.

I must say well done Siege for your continuous low prices which must be giving other dealers food for thought. I will also agree with you on it is essential to have new card's to practise with, I generally open a new pack up every 3 or 4 day's and that is with at least 12 hours of practise, it certainly makes it harder to perform sleights with a used deck and also new decks look's more presentable when performing whether it be paid or just to family.

That is excellent value for money. And I think that was a smart move with the limits on decks per order.

And for the same price as Bicycle Seconds... we can pracitce to our hearts content with a brand new deck which will only be good for everyone.

Good job man!! :)

yes, great price. The only place I have seen them cheaper is the bricks in Costco. Deos this apply to red and blue only as I'm rather fond of the green backed bikes?

Yeah I've given decks away to at work to students who've shown a genuine interest in the art. But I fear it has backfired slightly; Every day I have a crowd of young lads, all clutching bikes, waiting meekly outside my door after I finish work.

I love helping them though, some of them are coming along very well.

Good deal, by the way. I get my decks from MagicBox in Newcastle. They're good at £1.50.
I like the costco deal but I miss the banter I get when I pop into the shop every so often for a new deck.

I like magic box, only ever order things online from them but a few times I've had them phone me up about certain things and alwas had a nice chin wag with them. They seem like a fun bunch of people.
