Well

Got into work this morning at 10.30 ( 1 and a half hours early as I had some callbacks ).

At 12pm we was told not to log on as we had a meeting. We all joked that we would be losing out jobs as the whole of outbound ( 40 in total ) were called in. Of course, we say that every time.

We got into the room and HR were there. Something wasnt right. Sure enough, many a true word are said in jest.

All 40 of us were told we were on Garden Leave for 3 months effective IMMEDIATELY. We were told that despite us beiong the most productive team in the UK there were not enough heads to continue functioning as a department.

We are being paiud for the next 3 months but cannot work elsewhere, cannot set foot into the building without consent, and were then sent home.

Been in the pub for the last few hours with some workmates, a final drinkand all that.. but..

I dont have a job!! And cant get one this side of 2007 otherwise I will lose a decent reduncancy package in January ( decent, not a great one ).

So Im on Garden leave... basically a bum thats getting paid to sit at home doing nothing...

That doesnt make it ok though.. Im gutted!!

That's a real nasty one ID. At least on the bright side of things, there's nothing to stop you looking for a job and giving your available start date after the 3 months.

You've got 3 months to find yourself something, I'm sure everything will be ok. But have a big hug to make you feel better.

I'm sorry to hear about your day mate. It's going to sting for a while but I'm sure you'll rise up from it and come out better for it. It's happened to me before more than once and it always gets better (might be a bit of pain in the process)

Anyhoo, just think of how you can progress your skills now and get on with that website. Not to mention all the coffee time you can get in with me and Gary

That's tough luck, mate. Use the time to get something together. It might be a blessing in disguise

That is hard mate, I feel for you and all in the same situation.

But every cloud has a silver lining, maybe this is your chance to work on turning pro?

yup sounds about right.

Ill use the 3 months to get the housesorted and to push gettingsome bar/restaurant work. Try and get referrals from that and away we go. Im on the magicians directory now aswell so hope that will bringsomething to the table

At least I get paid for being off work and I think the main priority has to be the house but once thats sorted, it will be a weight off.

Its just that we were all having a blinsing month and its been cut short. Its just a shock to the system.. some younguns got £15k comission though so they are smiling

Time to work on my muscle pass and perfect faro

Sorry to hear that ID - but as others have said before, perhaps as one door closes another opens? Give it some serious thought - it's not as tough as you may think. PM me if you want any advice, anytime.

don't get down...get bloody well cracking!

3 months worth of hard practice, 3 months of sorting your c.v. and applying magic skills to that...people management, dealing with stroppy people, that kinda thing...

3 months worth of pay for doing nothing but furthering yourself however you choose...3 months of selling yourself...

onwards and upwards..pointless getting down no matter how rubbish the situation...always...do it now!

Sorry to hear that mate.

Sometimes these things can be a lever and may well be the opportunity you need to start earning a bit with your magic skills. I hope something comes up for you soon.

Seems to me that you have an excellent opportunity dropped into your lap. I can only echo what Tomo and abraxus have said.

Are you a "the cup is half empty" sort of guy? What you view as a possible problem, I see as an advantage. You have three months of regular pay to put together anything that you want - to do anything that you want. You ain't got a dream? You've got three months to see any dream that you have to fruition...How easy that is, and whether it can be done or just started (in that amount of time), depends on that dream, of course. But, you've got "a leg up."

Failure is never failure, until you simply give up.

Mike.

Denied dude, but at least you're getting paid!
I've been out of work for the last 2 weeks and it drives me insane, i hate just sitting around not doing anything, makes me feel really unproductive. but on the plus side, i've been juggling a lot and can now do a 442442 (yeah, that's right!). Start a new job on monday though. woot!

Advice time: If you're wanting to get some restaurant slash bar work then make yourself up a CV CD; make a few videos of you doing a few tricks and put them on a CD along with a word document saying who you are, what you do, what you charge etc... And just carry a few of these CDs around with you, if you're in a bar you'd like to work in and the situation doesn't arrise where you can show the manager a couple of tricks then you can drop the CD off behind the bar FAO The Management!

Custom R&S decks made to specification - PM me for details
