Honestly, I only read books if they interest me. And, the only thing that interests me is mentalism. Yup, my library is totally tricked out with mentalism books, PDFs, notes, and other such things.

Sounds like I'm a loser, doesn't it?

I like 20th century American lit...some of my favorite books being:

Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises
Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby
Anne Tyler's The Accidental Tourist
John Irving's A Prayer for Owen Meany
Anything by J.D. Salinger
Anything by Raymond Carver
Almost anything by Kurt Vonnegut
Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates

For non-"literary" work, I like detective fiction & horror fiction, particularly:
Koontz
King
Carl Hiaasen (not really detective fiction, but detective-ish)
Christie
Crais
(Michael) Connelly
(T. Jefferson) Parker
Cornwell
(Dick) Francis
Deaver

I also like some poetry, particularly:

Dorianne Laux
Stephen Crane
W.B. Yeats
Robert Frost
Carl Sandburg

I also read many books on competitive games such as bridge, chess, poker, and backgammon, and sports books, particularly boxing. Also, investment books.

I like Stephen King and Dean Koontz but I'll read most stuff. I'm about to start a book called House of Leaves. Looks very interesting - certainly looks unconventional if nothing else.

I liked Stephen King's "The Dead Zone". The TV series is good too.
Books that I liked that were also by King include The Green Mile, Salem's Lot, and The Stand.

Other than those, I read (and enjoyed) Sophie's World last year; a lot of Kurt Vonnegut books the year before that; The Pearl (Steinbeck) was frightening; The Lord of the Flies left me up at night; Ender's Game was fun and creepy when I read it a few years ago. I can go on, but I covered most of my favourites.

For the last couple years though, magic related books dominated my book shelf, so I didn't get to read many novels.

Currently Reading "House of Mystery" (Abbott, Teller), Tarbell, Everything I can on busking

I don't read any books that are not magic related these days and I'm more of a magazine reader. I like the concept of reading it and then throwing it away. Each month I tend to get through around half a dozen magazines including GQ, PC Pro, Stuff, T3, and a couple of home improvement mags and whatever else may take my fancy.

Many years ago when I was into photography I collected a library of photography related books (pre-digital days) and for the past 20 years they've been in the lost. I've recently found them again as I'm packing to move and I'm still undecided whether to take them with us (only to no doubt store again) or whether to donate them somewhere.

I'll most probably do the latter, perhaps keeping a couple back for posterity but the magic books are coming with us

I don't know how much King you've read, but you might also particularly enjoy Hearts in Atlantis. Also, the novellas Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption (in Different Seasons) and The Long Walk (in The Bachman Books) are very good, also. The Long Walk is probably my favorite work by him.

I read quite a lot of different types of books.

I'm really into Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time books, reading an interesting book on Salvidor Dali at the moment and also one on sports physiology.

have to agree with abraxus on early Clive Barker.
His game undying (scripted and artistically directed) undying was pretty good stuff too.

Some Stephen King although a lot of his stuff can bore me quite quickly.

Also like Robert Rankin quite a bit, particularly the trilogy "Armageddon the musical", "Armageddon the B-movie", and "Armageddon the remake".
A cast of thousands including Elvis Presley, a time travelling brussel sprout called Barry, Dali Dan, R Hubbard and Christine (Jesus' sister, rather narked at being left out of the new Testament).

Oh, and does Viz count?

not a fan of sigs, so I won't bother adding o..... oh

Thanks for the suggestion. I think I may have it hidden in some corner of my book shelf somewhere. My books are generally about magic these days, so I might not get to it for a while.
