No, moodini. I certainly don't mean the svengali deck. I have no idea what an ACR is so I don't mean that either.

I am not going to detail the tricks in my act. There are too many thieving b******s and copyists around who haven't an original thought in their heads.

I shall merely say that it is not hard to work out what tricks I do since there are very few card tricks that can be done on stage. If you work out a dozen or tricks that can be done on stage ( I use 9) you will probably end up with most of the ones I do anyway.

Be aware thought that very few people would be able to pull off an act such as this. I know Ricky Jay does it but that is about it as far as I know. In the old days Nate Leipzig did a card act as did Lionel King and Billy O'Connor. However in those days you only had to do a very short act.

My act had its origins in the night clubs of London about 40 years ago when I was working to extremely drunken audiences. I only had to do 15 minutes though which was more than enough for those inebriated crowds.
Just recently I decided to revive and expand the old act. It is working very well.

With regard to the size of the audience I am prepared to admit that it will not work in the Royal Albert Hall but for an audience of several hundred people there is no problem.

Well, well, well...

Anyways, depending of the style of performance you have to do, For Andruzzi with (our very own) Craig Browning's suggestion of getting a standing ovation can be killer. It would have to be a closer, of course. "Instant Messaging" by Gerard, in PS2 can be a very good opener for such a situation (I would imagine). You would need a rather large image of the AOL logo, though.

ACR is ambitious card routine....and as far as point number two in your post....I here what you are saying Mark!

I do use some card effects that I know will work on stage as well...but just looking for other ideas....especially when the crowd size grows

i COMPLETLY AGREE WITH YOU MARK

Another good idea, will be for moodini, to try also:

1) Hight Elevated Queens

or

2) The Queens and the three Aces in Love

Very efective, but require good slid of hands. and i dont really know Mr Moodini's level

The golden oldie, Three Cards Across can work well in a stage format as of course does anything involving a card, note, being discovered in a piece of fruit.

I understand what Mark is saying in that there are many card effects that can be performed on stage without needing jumbo cards. There is a Banachek effect in the booklet for Beyond Esp2 which works very well on stage.

As McCabe pointed out, there are an abundance of effects in Tarbell which are perfect for performing in front of a large audience. I particularly like The Prisoner's Escape from volume one and the Thumb Tie effects.

Why we remember a magicien that did a simple trick 10 years

Postby karl » Sep 13th, '07, 11:09

I Moodini
Glad you liked.
As I say, with the ide and routine I sent you yesterday
you can keep an audience for about 20 minutes, just with a deck of normal non guimiked cards, and The ..... secret i told you yesterday.

Dont forget obviously, that FUN is the key for this presentation,
and there is THE ART.

Why we remember a magicien that did a simple trick 10 years ago, and we forget all the other ones that preformed the same trick, a week ago ?
Presentation and originality

Ask for more if needed

Presentation is an important aspect of, especially on stage where you have to communicate with a large crowd of people.
I saw Max Somerset once perform at a Cabaret night in Soho and he did the routine where you milk someone's arm using a funnel.

The patter, presentation and involvement with the specs was so superb that he managed to make one simple effect last for 20 minutes. Light-hearted banter with the partcipants kept the audience amused and the whole performance and Max's personality were what made it entertaining rather than the effect itself. A good entertainer can make the most basic of effects become one of the most entertaining things the audience has seen. Karl/Supermario is right in saying that presentation and humour are the keys to stage success.

I like to put myself in the mind of the audience. Things that cannot be seen are only interesting to those participating on stage. With mentalism you can have more of an effect on the audience as you can involve them to a greater or lesser degree.
They key is picking the right effects for stage. I tried SAW once, at a smallish club and it couldn't really be seen (It's a section where I talk about Victorian circus acts). I replaced this with skewer through tongue and then through thumb which had more of a response due to the size and nature of the props used.

Like everything, it's trial and error and you learn by either trying something out amongst your sure-fire winners or practicing at for friends and working out the furthest distance it can be seen it.

Don't worry, Karl asked me to review one of his items which I don't even have.

I will review ALL of his items on every forum I can find and let the world know that this man is no to be trusted.

How can someone who is such an immature, uneducated moron have any respect ANYWHERE?

I really do hope he attempts the Bullet Catch live on stage. I'd kindly fire the gun if he likes....

and get £300 from 'You've Been Framed' afterwards!

Ding dong!
