Knock Out / WOW by Masuda

Postby Carl Buck » Sep 14th, '07, 09:58

Morning all!

I've just had an email from emagictricks, and they are selling an effect called knock out, which looks very similar to the Masuda WOW wallet, although it is quite a bit cheaper.

Can anyone compare the 2 for me?

Thanks

Well, if the Emagictricks 'clone' of the Wizard PK Ring is anything to go by, this latest clone is probably going to fit the same criteria:

DOES THE SAME JOB, BUT NOTICABLY CHEAPER

The choice is yours!

Wow

WOW is a great effect and I would imagine an attempt to produce it cheaper would really have every chance of spoiling the effect. It could easily be one of those novelty tricks bought by the sea side if it was not produced and presented so well.

What makes this whole lauch even tacky-er is that 'Knock Out' is already a card effect (Eggink) and also, it would have been much better suited to being called "Knock-off".

Hi everybody hope you are all well.

I would like to put some facts to siege as he seems
To be a little in the dark.

The neomagnetic ring is not a clone of the pk wizard as it
Was available before 2004. (before the pk wiz)
That has been proved.
And now many people know it is an off the shelf item.

Also emagictricks have not cloned the wow, we bought
Knock out from one of the leading wholesalers.

As far as we are aware the effect has been out before in a similar form many years ago.

If it is confirmed that it is a Rip Off as you imply we will be more than happy to remove it from our site.

Be Nice :D

I can say the neomagnetic ring is not a Clone of the PK, simply becuase the PK is Much better, I am not saying the neomagnetic ring is not any good but it's one of those things you get what you pay for. I have to reserve judgment with Emagics I still have a problem to solve with them, As for Wow/knock out I guess we will get a review on them at somepoint..

OK, let's put this straight...

The Wizard PK was the FIRST COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE AND MARKETED MAGICIAN'S RING of it's kind, i.e. solid neodymium. Fact. The Wizard PK was created for the purpose—and was never an 'off the shelf' item.

The Emagictricks ring came out AFTER and rode the bandwagon. Quite fairly, Emagictricks would have NEVER RELEASED their neo ring if Wizard PK hadn't had the idea and success.

(After much caffuffle in court etc, I believe that the case of Wizard Vs Cheapo was settled out of court, and all is well now. The history between them is nullified, as the Wizard PK ring has no threat from the multitude of immitations... it's made the profits it set out to—several times over!)

Now... as for the other item, Ahem...

It WAS available many years ago, but why wait till now to release it? And why the massive price hike (if I remember correctly, similar items were much cheaper originally).

All that's happening here is called Jumping on the Bandwagon, Riding on the Shoulders of Giants... call it what you will, but as I said:

THESE ARE QUITE SIMPLY NOTICEABLY CHEAPER VERSIONS OF THE SUCCESSFUL ITEMS BY WIZARD PK AND MASUDA.

If people WANT to buy them, they will. I'm not stopping anyone, or attempting to influence anyone at all.

I'm a little LESS IN THE dark than may have been claimed ;)

Let's not have another row over this... it's old ground.

Dear Seige.

I don’t want to row over anything but the true facts are.

A solid neodymium wedding band style ring was made in 1984

For magicians.

All the documents have been seen by the relevant people

I know this is old ground but allot of people don’t know the truth.

I don’t see any reason why you brought it up in the first place if you say "its old ground".

SO YOU DONT KNOW ALL THE FACTS YOU ONLY KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN TOLD. B--L S--T BAFFLES BRAINS.

I’m only defending myself so people don’t get the wrong idea.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not taking offence, and I'm not the type to fall out over a few mistakes.

I'm not commenting on the rip-off/non-rip-off issue, however...

...surely whether it comes across as a cheap novelty trick is the way you present it, it has nothing to do with the fact that you paid £40 for it? I just think this type of thinking is what inspires people to create what is in effect a natty little gimmick, but then limit the supply, hype the hell out of it and sell it as a sophisticated miracle. £25 or £40, this item has always seemed a bit like a magic magazine giveaway item to me... the fact that emagictricks are not putting in the ultra-marketing to make the people who paid £40 for this feel like they got a good deal really doesn't bother me, if it's a good product you won't resent the money... :?

Excellent! You were'nt meant to take offence, which is why your defensive attitude was baffling.

I'm so glad I got the facts wrong. I don't normally make such mistakes, so it's nice to have been pointed in the right direction.

It's nice to see that you are offering the magic world products at such good prices. To me, WOW! was way overpriced in the first place. As I say, yonks ago these cost no more than a deck of cards.

Bottom line: Where some lead, others follow.

i've not bought wow, it wouldnt suit me at all...however, i think im right that if you buy it from say, steven's magic emporium's site in the states, it'll work out fairly cheap in comparision to the usual price over here at the mo...

worth a little sniff around if anyone is thinking of buying it...never had to pay import tax from there either...

I agree but not only on price or value for money, I sniff terms and conditions of the sale, also to see if they have a site set up and tells you if stock is available, most importantly a good customer service so when things go wrong either the item is replaced or refund is given without the hassle of having to phone them every day chasing your refund/exchange up, not to mention No refund on postage when you have to send an item back especially larger expensive ones that are damaged returns.

I would be more than willing to pay and extra couple of quid for a good service/customer relations.
I think we should have a place on TM where to and not where to buy from I think that would get some online sellers to re think on how/what they sell to us.

Just my thoughts
