Trouble with Hindu Shuffle

Postby mysterico » Sep 27th, '07, 18:30

Welcome to my post!!! :D :D :D

I am currently trying to learn the Hindu Shuffle but I can't seem to get it right. Apparently you can do some pretty cool tricks when you have learnt it.

Please can someone help me!!!

Hindu Shuffle

I keep dropping the cards and it doesn't look very convincing.

hi,
You should first make an introduction if its not done yet then you should be more concise.

If you dont know or cant tell what you need no one really can help you.

There isn't much to master with a hindu shuffle. The fingers gently tighten and loosen their grip while the hands move back and forth and allow gravity to do its thing.

Perhaps you're trying too hard?

Frankly, given the grip used for the Hindu, if you're dropping the cards then you're way off the mark technically.

I would suggest you learn the Hindu from a reputable source. Nobody here will teach it to you, as it sounds suspiciously like you're fishing...

Sorry to sound so blunt, but I'm renowned for it.

I'm fairly new to magic but any good advice is practce, practice practice. I find doing fake shuffles and the like (Hindu Shuffle included) in front of a mirror. Look at your posture - I really struggled initially with some basic fake shuffles before using a mirror and I seen I was all over the place, sitting all wrong and unnatural.
It's helped me enormously.

Most decent card books will teach this (Royal Road and Mark Wilson included). It's not really particularly difficult, read a good book and practice.

Also, you might want to see how loosely you're holding the deck. If you tighten up a tad, you might stop dropping the cards.

With the pack held in dealing position in the left hand, the left-hand cards should be held loosely, those in the right hand tightly.

I've been using this shuffle for over 40 years and I still occasionally drop a card. But as I'm a mentalist it doesn't matter!

Furthermore, if I am informed correctly, the Hindu Shuffle itself is not a "trick shuffle". It originally is a legit shuffle. There are ways to slightly change it into a shuffle that retains certain parts of the deck.

On the other hand, the basic principle of the hindu is fairly simple, and in my opinion the handling is very natural. Maybe you should practice the hindu shuffle as a legit shuffle first, without trying to retain parts or do funny stuff with it.

Regards,
Mike

You're dead right. The hindu shuffle is a perfectly real shuffle, used alot by Indians, hence the name. :D
