Magic Stop Light Cards

Postby Mandrake » May 5th, '04, 10:30

The Effect: Magic Stop-Light Cards by Magic Makers Inc/Rob Stiff.

Cost: £3.00 plus P&P

From: Wand Magic - http://www.wandmagic.co.uk/content/cards/stop-light.htm

Difficulty: 1 (or perhaps slightly less!)
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

Examinable: Props are placed on spec's hand as part of the routine and can be examined at the end.

The Blurb: Two Black plaques each in their own clear plastic sleeves are shown, one is blank and the other has three coloured spots, Red, Yellow and Green just like a traffic light. A coloured spot is freely selected, and both plaques are removed and one placed in each of the spectators hands. A command is given and the selected spot vanishes from the one plaque and appears on the other while in the spectator's hands. The plaques can be examined.

Review: A nice little self working effect where all you have to do is 'guide' the spec's choice and concentrate on the presentation. Props are credit card sized black plastic which seem almost indestructible so will last for decades and won’t take up any room in your pocket – the spots are a nice prismatic vinyl type of spot and have a look of decent quality about them. The secret is very simple but deceptive and the whole trick is ideal for a quick effect on the spur of the moment. I got mine as a freebie bonus effect with other goods but, at £3.00, it’s worth buying anyway.

Value for money: 9 out of 10
C.U.P.S.Rating: 5 out of 10

Once you've bought this there's no reason why you couldn't make your own customised version - use business cards, use bike card stock, use company labels/logos as the stickers etc.

A kiddiewinks version ought to be easy enough if you use appropriate stickers - possibly on a theme such as the 3 Little Pigs, the 3 Bears, the 3 Musketeers (OK, only joking about the last one!). Larger versions would be even better for stage or not so close up work where the spec is on stage with you. In fact, now I'm really starting to think about it, this little beaut has a lot more possibilities than at first realised!

There you go - I knew I was on to a winner! (Mandrake reluctantly cancels his person to person call to David Copperfield)

I love this effect, I got it as a free-be a while ago and it's just a perfect example of Magic Logic and Thinking. The effect can also be extremely strong aswell which is of course a bonus. The handy card size is great to, infact this is something I keep in my wallet for emergencies! A Wicked trick!

All the best,

Will Wood
