Hello Everyone.

Finally I found a forum, where they take the art of magic and it's
secrets seriously, enough to screen people before they have access
to some threads.

With my 44 years in magic, I have hated to see sites pop up
that show how to do magic in plain view. what I wanted is a
forum where I could talk shop with other magicians and where
I could help Beginners as well, to kinda pass on what I know
and learned in my 44 years of working in front of many types
of Audiences. And you will soon learn that I put more on
presentation and performance then I do the secret of an effect.

In other words the secret is the trick, and practice comes second.
and practice is something important out of all you could ever do.
But presentation and performance to me is what brings all that
practice together to make it fool proof. a beginner can practice
and get good, I mean real good and such, but presentation
and performance will always rank highest because once you
have learned that, you find that you can control an audience
and almost get by with anything.

Anyways, I am happy to have ran across this forum, and I hope
to make some new friends and to share not just secrets but
share what really makes an effect work every time.

greetings fellow pro and i agree with what you say 100%, i never got on with cards but with the help of a stripper deck and a good grounding in presentation i managed to apear to be a card shark.

Thanks, I also wanted to inject just how you can use a trick deck
and still end up clean, so I thought long and hard on this and I
remembered a method I used with the ID.

Now I am going to explain this so as not to give away the
secret, yet those who know the secrets to the terms I
will be using will be able to understand what I am getting at.

Anyway, the hardest part for some people is after exposing
the card as being turned over is now the deck it's self.
and what I came up with allows me to slide the turned over
card out flip it over to show it's the card they thought of
and then gather the deck up and give it a few cuts, and hand
it out for inspection.

since you should already know the workings of the ID
I will not go into that section and just say that if you used the
stripper method, then you could seemingly just give it a few
cuts if you know what I mean and now the deck can be inspected.
of course you would want to watch close to how they inspect
the cards, but I have never seen anyone find anything bad
about the cards.

I am not sure if any of this makes sense, as I have tried to
say it in a cryptic term for those who know those terms.

But if you do get it, then you can understand what I mean
when I say, one method from one effect, can help you out
in another effect, and give you an escape from what I call
dirty tricks. a dirty trick is any trick that leaves you with
something to hide. in other words, it has no clean ending
where your left free of anything to get rid of.

But, you can take just about any trick and turn it clean
all it takes is creativeness and a willingness to alter the
trick a bit, as long as it has the same effect.

Now I have never bought a ID myself. because
the first time I seen it, I knew how to duplicate it. In fact I
can see a effect or illusion and tell how it's done. this is
because I have been doing magic so many years, and what
I have seen is that most tricks or Illusions use a few methods.
that are just creatively used in different ways to appear as if
they are a new creation, which in one sense it is, but it's method
is not new. sometimes someone does come up with some
new method, but it's not done a lot. if you don't believe this
then you just have not been in magic long enough to learn
all these methods. and if you do, then you would agree that
you kinda see methods done over and over with a new twist
to it.

The best place to discover this is in stage Illusions. because
in that field you can see that ALL the methods used are
not that many, in fact, you can learn all those methods in
a short time, compared to other fields of magic.

once you have learned all the popular Illusion methods it's
possible to create what appears to be a new Illusion. yet don't
get me wrong, that field is not limited to those methods, because
there are some special people who come along and create
new methods. it kinda grows with time. but most magicians
use what is already invented and put their twist to it. but
the very creative ones push the envelope, and those people
become famous. although some, like David Copperfield just
takes known methods and pushes it to larger scale. and becomes
famous because of his ability to execute it on a larger scale.
and execute it smoothly with good results.

Well, what I was trying to get at is that you can learn as much
as you can about all sorts of methods, and even when you
find a trick you don't like, you still gain from it's method, and
if you are creative it could spark a new effect in your mind.
and if not at that time, it could in the future when some trick
you learn, brings to mind another, and you marry them
together to create a mind blowing effect that fools even
the best of magicians.

So don't think you got riped off from some magic tricks you
ordered, and don't count it out as not good or in your own
style, because each thing you learn, steps you up closer to
becoming a master mind at your art.
