Now I am not one to instigate a fight, but when I read this (link):

Is Dave getting old?

I felt that the ladies had to be shown that they are, quite simply, wrong.

So to the vote. Which is it to be?

Clubbing or local.

Definitely a nice quiet local pub - spent too many years in nightclubs working and don't enjoy them anymore.

But then......

I am getting old

Wouldn't anyone chose a nice friendly pub over a loud expenside club? Do I sense just a slight bias in the question?

Chess at the pub then

Postby Amanda Angeli » Oct 5th, '07, 21:32

Hello Boys,

Okay, fine, a nice quiet friendly British pub it is then. Anybody for a game of chess, a toss of some darts (does anybody love woodies or is it just me - um, that's wood Phillies darts, lads - silly Amanda), and a nice pint or two? Really, we should all go, that would be such fun.

An interesting Illusion would be to toss a dart and have it in mid air transform into a rose and then stick in the board. Any tricks like that anybody is aware of? If not, perhaps a pint or two would solve offer a solution. It would be a fun trick to make.

Love,

Amanda Angeli

Local

Pros:

Decent pint and prices
Friendly faces
Canny banter

Cons:

TV constantly fought over (football v horse racing v rugby)
Peanuts at least two years out of date
Nothing outside for us lepers, ahem, smokers. (landlords a tight B******)

Clubs

Pros:

Good music and loud enough to do it justice (if you go to the right ones)
New conversations with different people
Sometimes just watching is fun

Cons:

Young-uns who can't hold their beer
Young-uns who know you shouldn't be there at your age (and you know, they know, cos you were thinking the same at their age)
Still thinking that dancing like this is hip:

Alcohol and dancing don't mix after 30 yrs of toil or, as my 7yr old princess put it last xmas, " EEEUUUWWW!! CCCRRINGGEEE!! Tell Dad to sit down!! "

All in all, i'll stick to the local, much less humiliating IMO.

Regards,

Good old spit and sawdust local where the landlord dosent need bouncers 'cos he is hard enough.

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.

This does wind me up. We'd been to a few bars last night and could have gone on to a few more, but some housemates (mostly girls) decided they really, really wanted to go to a club. I declined the offer. £15 in, saturday night = town centre full of spanners, expensive taxis, expensive drinks, drenched in sweat and alcopops courtest of some legless tart "not seeing you" ... no thank you!

This is what annoys me about these things the most: precious few people seem to actually like going to dance. Going to a club is basically an excuse for girly faff... waiting for someone, sorting out taxis, queuing for the cloak room for 20 minutes, queuing at the bar for 30 minutes, getting your ridiculously small expensive drink and taking it onto the dancefloor, wiggling slightly for all of the 3 minutes it takes you drink your drink, going to the toilet in pairs (with the inevitable 10 minute queue), then back to the bar, then "looking for someone"... blah blah blah blah blah... but ask someone why they go and they say "I like dancing"! :?

What?! You spent about 1% of your time dancing! In fact, if you're stood together, without drinks, doing nothing but dancing (it's too loud to talk obviously), it actually starts to feel awkward and it will only be able 4 minutes before someone feels the need to break the social silence by needing a drink/a wee/to find someone else.

All of this whilst you're in a sweaty, grimey environment surrounded by the sort of people you would usually cross the street to avoid.

Great fun

Oppps sorry, I didn't realise that was that you

Nah, they're great places to go out with your friends, have a few drinks and let your hair down.

And if people don't start to agree with me, there's going to be some serious trouble around here

I dont like clubs... got dragged to one again few weeks back not been for about 10 years... anyway i ending up falling asleep in the corner, didnt dance at all, wasted loads of cash on booze (thats why i crashed out) £60 on drink is bad in my opinion.. i know people spend alot more but I dont like spending that much when i know i could get it alot cheaper :(

Pubs or mates round at home all the way for me :)
