Best ITR for ring levitation

Postby Ed Wood » Oct 6th, '07, 10:15

I've always used loose thread for ring levitation and am presently using loops. Now I want to experiment with reels. I've tried out the really cheap ones (the basic original design) and they were fine but I want an idea of what else is out there. I'm after something that will be good for instant reset (if thats possible with any reel) and ease of hook up. So far I've looked at the spider pen, stealth retractor and the kevlar pen. Any opinion on these or others?
Cheers, Ed

Hi Ed

Mods will confirm but we could just slightly be exposing there although I understand your question.

You could try the Indian ITR, the IT isn't the greatest that's supplied but you can reload it with your favoured IT. And once you see how it works it's not that difficult to set about making one that's adapted to you and how you wnat it.

One of the first reels I bought and I still use!

I do a simple ring levitation using Loops (the S.T.EL.TH. ones I have made myself, not the overpriced Mesika ones) and it works like a dream.

Hardly any set up, easy to get into and you end looking clean and can hand the ring straight back. It's certainly got me a good reaction, I usually make the ring move on my hand (PK) first which the spec thinks is the whole effect then I say "Watch!" and it rises four or five inches into the air and then flies over to the opposite hand and lands on the end of the little finger. The ring is then removed and handed straight back.

It's very effective and easy to do.

I like loops and think they're excellent for a ring float, especially the ease of hook up and lack of preparation required, for a more impromptu float they are definately my preferred method. For my ultimate ring routine though I prefer more distance between my hands, it's not so much a float I do, more like a twitch and a jump. A length of thread works fine for this but I want to experiment with reels to see if they would make my life easier for re-set and generally being able to walk around with it attached without fear of loose thread getting wound up and broken. I've used an Indian thread reel and guess I'm looking for something along the same lines but with more reliability and better build quality.
Incidentaly, I doubt very much this could be seen as exposure, the actual existence of reels and use of threads by magicians is hardly a secret. The real secret is how such fine threads can be used, the hook up and the circumstances in which they can be used and will remain invisible.

It was the correlation between thread and levitation not the existence :)

Try making your own on the principles of the Indian reel trying to create the adaptations you seek. You never know, you just might come up with something we all want lol :P

I've heard good things about the Spider Pen and it's something I plan to purchase in the future. This could be a good solution. I find the loops easier to unhook and your hands look completely clean (in the right lighting)
