Linking chain and ring

Postby Ur » Oct 6th, '07, 11:13

I recently bought an ungimmicked chain loop and small steel ring. The instructions with them are of a very poor quality though, and i cant make sense of any of the tricks described.

Do you know of any visuals of tricks involving the above, so i can atleast see what the effect looks like. It might fill in a few blanks. Cheers.

Are the chain loop & ring attached?
Is there a padlack with it?
If so sounds like you brought a Seberian Chain Escape.

yeah, it says something like that on the instructions. Its just a chian loop, and seperate from it is the steel ring.

I suspected it might be knack magicmonkey, but after the first ten minutes I sat down and tried to force it to follwo the path i expect that description to take, and it doesnt seem to get me anywhere.

The ring is supposed to become looped through the chain, but it just doesnt make sense. Atleast when I can get it the viewer wont be able to work it out. heh.

That's close enough I'd say, but you're right...it's a knack thing...not a gimmick.

I got "mine" from a small magic shop in Singapore and "the little man" there showed my other half how it's done and actually GAVE it to her so she could fool ME with a trick for once! LOL! How cool is that?!

It's a tough one to explain...best to be show, even an illustration falls somewhat short.

Any takers who will take this on... NOT in the public forum?

It's a great trick to know how to do...very visual.

If we can hit that bullseye then the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards... Checkmate!

I agree its hard to explain in words or even pictures.
I worked briefly selling cheap imported magic from the east, and this was among the stock. We demoed them, and gave a quick lesson in how to do it when they bought one.

pmd you UR, hope it helps.

I got one of these in Memphis in a place that wasn't really a magic store, just a junk store. I pretty much gave up pretty quick

It's definitely a 'knack' thing. Don't try and second-guess the path the the ring is supposed to go on, it's very counter-intutive. Mods feel free to move the follwing, if it counts as exposure, but -

Think of ring as having the four cardinal points of the compass, you need the chain touching East and West and you need your finger and thumb touching North and South - allow the ring to slide off the thumb first, and you should get it.

Lastly, DON'T present it as a 'puzzle'. With the right framework, it can be a very beautiful effect.

best,

Lee
