Pulls and Reels

Postby cryptesthesia » Oct 7th, '07, 01:49

I have heard a lot about pulls. My main concern is the noise factor and the ease upon which it takes to set up. Does anyone have any particular pull by which they can count on? I don't mind spending a few extra dollars for a nice one ... but I don't want to spend a lot then be disappointed. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

I have seen the Raven -- I am not too impressed with this one. Does anyone have a different opinion regarding this particular product?

I haven't seen the Black Widow. Is this worth the money?

I feel like I have bombarded my fellow friends with enough questions at this time.

Thanks for the support!

I don't know many magicians that use pulls that much really. I think you're better off learning sleight of hand vanishes personally.

The raven is quite an astonishing effect, but EVERYONE i know who owns one, including myself, got it, used it for a day or two, then cast it aside to the box of gimmicky rubbish that'll probably never be used again. Get Bobo's book, learn complete vanishes from there, never look back.

The Black Widow is something that really intrigued me, then i was shown one and i thought it was hilarious. So impractical, it's daft, really. Look how many have been put up for sale in the Approved Sales forum. Again, it will never beat good old slight of hand.

The only real need for them i think is to do a really nice complete cigarette vanish, which can also be done with a trusty TT, and, you've guessed it...................good old sleight of hand.

Thanks for the comments. I have Bobo's book as well as Tarbell's course which I actually like better. I suppose I am tempted too much as a magician for the perfect vanish. I agree that contraptions usually get stored away in the attic moments after purchase -- which is why I am hesitant to buy a reel or a pull of any sort.
I was also contemplating fooling around with my own created pull -- I don't think they are too difficult to create. Anyhow, thanks for your ideas.
