nest of boxes -- best methodology

Postby cryptesthesia » Oct 7th, '07, 00:56

Hey,

I recently purchased a nice set of boxes in order to perform a nested boxes routine. I was wondering if anyone could offer suggestions as to the best method of making the item (ring) disappear and how best to place the item (ring) into the loading gimmick soundlessly and secretly. I'd love to hear different ideas on the subject.

I was thinking about purchasing the ring box from Hank Lee to disappear the object. Does anyone have more information on this product?

Many Thanks!

We are sailing a little close to the wind here on expsoure, so I will address the ring vanish. I like the 'No Ring Hank' for vanishing the ring. In fact I did this last night. You borrow any ring from the audience, you put that ring under the hank, they can hold their own ring, and you then pull away the hank and the ring is gone. These are hand made and in my view worth the investment.

The second phase of what you are doing depends on the routine of the show. My particiapnt gets an envelope with a key and an insurance certificate, which promises that I will return the ring in spectacular fashion by the end of the show. The final revelation is not until later in the show and the locked box is in full view the whole time.

I've been messing around with the same routine myself recently. To vanish the ring I palm it off my left thumb using the method which is generally used to palm or vanish a thimble whilst seemingly taking it with my right. I'll place my right hand which appears to now contain the ring in the spectators whilst I remove the boxes from my bag to my side. The sound caused when you load the ring can be a problem, there's no actual method to supress this, just misdirection, distraction and maybe a well timed cough :D
If you get the Hank Lee ring box I'd be interested to know what you think.

I like the idea of the "no ring hank". I will definitely check that out. That setup suits my style of performance well. I also want the spectator to definitely know it is one place for good misdirection upon the load. Thanks for the ideas.

I also will be performing this on stage -- so I think with good music and misdirection the sound will be muffled. I don't think this would be as strong of an effect for close up performances.

Thanks for the good ideas.
