Ive always heard about this 2 part collection
but always had a hard time finding it.

last year i finally broke down and ordered it over the
internet and had mixed feelings about it.

It came as a 2 Tape VHS boxset which made me
believe this had lots of content.

Its all about magic that you can do "on the spot"
...david ... blaaa... well. you know.

i found it very entertaining to sit down and watch
but i dont think, i myself, would do any of these tricks.
there are maybe 2 or 3 .. like
"Recap Revisied" and "Quick Silver" that are pretty good
but nothing so great to write home about.

i also found that for something advertised as a 2 tape
collection that there isnt much here. not only that
but i thought they really could squeeze both tapes onto one.

i think it was more good marketing then lots of content.

watching the video is like watching a low budget david blaine special
where david tells you how to do the tricks afterwards...
this guy almost looks like him too!!

i really dont agree whith your rewiev. On the spot is a great video, the tricks are not easy, but are very amusing and the teaching is perfect.

yeah, i have to really REALLY dissagree with you on the david blaine comment. gregoy wilson has really good stuff and his card tricks are very complcated which requires a long time to learn. i seen on the spot before and i liked most of his stuff, a little complecated for me in impromtu magic, but a little practice doesnt kill anybody right?

oh yeah, penguin magic sells the dvd version of on the spot

?!~

Wrote a review on this then found one had been done so I though I would add mine to the original one as its always good to have two points of view.

On The Spot by Gregory Wilson DVD

http://www.penguinmagic.com/europe/product.php?ID=466

The Effect
This DVD includes the following
Ticker Taker – Super simple watch steal
Quick Silver – A coin disappears and reappears three times
Sponge Napkins – A sponge ball routine with napkins
Open Palm Coin Across – Impromptu and clean
Head Trip – Paper balls over the head but with anything
Glossy Finish – Lipstick on the inside of the spectators hand
Toll Free – Miser’s dream but close up
99c Trick – Disappearances!!
Florida Keys – Mini linking ring routine with keys and a keyring
Ring Fright – Borrowed ring gets tossed in the air and caught on a finger
Trick Question –Coin transportation with change in your pocket
Playful Pickpocketing – Rob your spectators blind but they will not mind!
Recap Revisited – Revamped!!

Cost £26.97

Difficulty = I would give it a 1 to 3. I found the key and keyring linking ring routine quite hard to start with but other things I go quite easily.

(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

Review
I really like this DVD. Its content is good and well presented and I also found it fun to watch. I liked the live performances included on the DVD. I would say this is a very good modern impromptu DVD.

Overall
9 out of 10, not sure why I am not giving it 10, can’t think of a single reason just not in my books a 10!!

Magic is real, just look around you, some of the most amazing things have no reason, no explanation but are very real.

I like gregs stuff , Card stunts, ringleader and On the spot . There are some very sankyesq tricks on the dvd well the coins across effect is almost sankeys coins across cant remeber the name. But the questionable trick is great i ve used it a few times. i also like gregs style and the fact you get the trick performed on real people, if any one wants i will do a review of this my self too let me know.

I have to also disagree with the top post, and concur that I find the Greg Wilson stuff to be of an excellent quality—both in terms of thoroughness, value and content.

Perhaps the sub-standard quality of the production was due to the version you had being videotape? Or, perhaps, was the tape a 'bootleg', as the version I have is quite crisp.

Anyhow, let's just say that Greg's a real master of what he does. And I also agree that his other material is worth a look—right down to the Hundy effect , which, although is not economical to do in the UK, I carry my 'Till receipts to £5 notes' gimmick with me occasionally—when I've not 'dibbed into it' for beer tokens ;)

Review

Got no cards? Forgot your TT? Here is Greg to the rescue just like in Jay Sankeys’ Anytime Anywhere. Here is a DVD on impromptu magic mainly covering coins 5 coin effects out of the 12 or 13 on the DVD. The Highlight for me is the questionable tick which is a copper silver effect done in the spectators hand. And for those of you out there who must use magic to pull women there is a great version of ashes on the arm but using lipstick. Greg is a good teacher and his effects are quite visual as with all of Wilson’s magic namely ring leader and this DVD is an excellent compliment to Sankeys Anytime anywhere.

Overall

I give this an Eight out of ten , Comparing it like to like with Sankeys DVD some of the effects are the similar but Sankeys DVD uses cards and impromptu to me doesn’t mean walking round with a deck in your pocket. Fans of Slydini will see Gregs version of Paper balls. I recommend this DVD to compliment Sankeys all though this has over sankeys DVD real world performances and Greg doesn’t do a very bad Jim Carey impression all the way through.

Before i begin, let me tell you that it really took me some time to find this thread. So there.

This product is a worth buy for me. As you know, I'm trying to "expand" my repertoire and starting to try impromptu and card magic after doing a lot of mentalism all these years. In our country, if you don't perform a David Blaine trick, they would not even consider you a magician. Nevertheless, I still get a lot of offers from the wealthy businessmen.

Yes, all the stuff on this DVD is impromptu. I would like to mention some favorites: 3/4 across, Florida Keys and Tricky Question.

Difficulty: It is quite difficult. 2 - 3 on my level.
Come on, his tricks involve watch stealing and pick pocketing...don't tell me you would not need sleight of hands! Also, I still find the Sylvester pitch difficult to do. Yes, you can mock me now.

Gregory Wilson is good at what he does and knows how to "mess" up with people, I wish I had that charm. Most of the tricks on this DVD require a lot of practice but i find them very fun and amusing. Head Trip could be a little offensive, but you can always do this to your friends. Some may look at this as a very simple trick, but the fun value is up the notch. Obviously, the setting is very good for bars and restaurants.

On the downside, I think Greg is always in a hurry on explaining things. I guess the length is an issue, so you have to repeat this over and over. After a week, I still find some of his stuff hard to do, but that would keep it very interesting for me.

On the spot is probably the video wich was the most usefull to me this year.

I had to replace a friend for a stand-up hour and i were running low in materials for this specific kind of show.

The first thing i realized with this video is that i wasnt just gonna do magic and run away but actually be an entertainer for this evening. I guess i would have had a similar conclusion in the process of constructing this show even without this video.

But Greg is really a good entertainer and gave me lots of pattern to explore for my own use. I am really looking forward to learn the watch steal and the sunglasses steal on this video. Both are great for simple entertaining purpose or to break the atmosphere when its getting heavy.

Both paper balls routine gave lots of comedy to my show, i have off course extend the act and added some of my own idea to blend both routines togheter.

Also the 11 cents trick is pretty easy to do and cause lots of headhache in close up situations. A spectator is asked to hold a penny and a dime inside his close fist, the spectator take 1 coin out of the closed fist and put it on back of his hand, let say its the penny.

The magician takes the penny and magicly change it for the dime on the back of the spectator hand, who is left with the previous penny inside his closed fist.

Then i had to add something and i remembered "The Bent Penny" from bobo's book, that makes for a really great finish because there is no way the spec will let you take a coin from his hand 2 times in a row and he always close his fist very, very tight the second time wich apparently cause the penny to bend...

All for all On the Spot is a great video filled with ready to use materials some effect require more training then others but the explanations are clear and easy to follow. There is 2 or 3 sleight wich are very similar to the one Sankey use but those are very useful sleight for any coin worker in my opinion. Also i believe the 3 coin transposition is almost if not the same routine as Sankey.

Its definatly a 9/10 for me only because the video quality isnt the best.

As I'm preparing for another party gig coming in a few weeks, I realized that much of the stuff I use are influenced by Gregory Wilson. Since I tried to use sleight of hands, most of the materials that "clicked" were Greg's stuff. That's why I do most of these over and over.

It's been almost a year since I added a comment here and my stand is still the same, this is by far one of the best purchases I had. The money I've spent on this went back a tenfold by tips alone.

BTW...as I've checked the performance videos again, I saw Greg got caught twice by the lady spectator (who was obviously a little wasted) but you can see how easy and clever he got away with it (Quicksilver performance).
