In my experience, medication won't be a problem - there's often a lot less regulation over there and the brand name drugs have much less of a monopoly- he'll probably be able to buy almost anything he wants over the counter, and cheaply!

With regard to the Passport I called the British Embassy recently in Ottawa to renew my passport. I asked her how much it would be. She was a British woman and said,"I don't want you shouting at me when I tell you" I told her, "of course I won't shout at you. How much is it?"
She replied, " I don't believe you. I need you to promise you won't shout at me. I am sick of people shouting at me when I tell the the price"

I responded, "I promise I won't shout at you. Now tell me how much it is going to cost" She replied "$300"

I screamed into the phone "WHAT!!! THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS! ARE YOU CRAZY!"

She said, "You promised not to shout at me" I replied that I had just changed my mind and that I was being ripped off.

She said it was more expensive now because of all the fancy technology installed in it because of pressure from the Americans because of all their 9/11 paranoia.

I don't know what it is going to cost in pounds but discoman better have a fat wallet.

That is dirt cheap. I am not pleased with the British Embassy in Ottawa. $300 is around 150 quid.

I wonder what magicdiscoman will find when he checks again.

With regard to this expatriation stuff there is a little thing that people going abroad to live should ponder especially if they are reaching retirement age.

You are entitled to your British Government pension when living abroad but here is a nasty little catch they don't tell you about. Pensions rise every year with the cost of living. However if you live overseas in certain commonwealth countries the pension is frozen and it will not rise. If you live in the United States you are OK and your pension will not be frozen but if you live in Canada it will be. Fiji should be OK as I don't think that is part of the British Commonwealth although I may be wrong. However Australia won't be OK.

There are British pensioner associations in those countries fighting against the injustice of it.

In that case you could probably buy enough to last him the rest of his life while you're still here, it's very cheap!

But I'm sure you won't have a problem getting it over there, honest guv-nar.

It sounds like they are ripping off the expatriates. The British Embassy in Ottawa is going to get a mouthful from me. No wonder that poor woman is being shouted at all the time.

The Canadian Passport which I have is around $80. And so is the American. The British seem a trifle greedy to me.

Just wait until we're forced to buy and carry those very expensive and pointless biometric ID cards as well - I fear the worst.....

under current junter rules it apears that only people over 60 who have 50k fiji dollars deposited are allowed to aply for citisenship.
iv'e heard of pay for play but this is a bit steap, curently the fiji embasys web contact is unavalable (btconnect), so i havant been able to get clarification, oh well if they dont want me i could always try iceland.

Approx £16,000.00 or US$32,500.00 - quite a sum but even if you could raise it, how the heck do you suddenly age 23 years to beome 'over 60'. Sounds strange to me, unless they have a very young population at the moment and can't handle any more youth arriving.
