I sent my friend in Nottingham a birthday card two weeks ago, it turned up on Monday. I think all the post is in a bit of a mess at the moment.

From the Royal Mail website:
We are pleased to announce that the planned strike action for the remainder of this week will not be going ahead, and that a draft agreement between Royal Mail and the Communications Worker’s Union (CWU) has been reached concerning the current dispute. The CWU Executive is considering whether to ballot members on this agreement, and we will communicate the decision as soon as possible.

Whilst we sincerely apologise for suspending a number of service guarantees and promises, we are delighted to be able to reinstate all guarantees for our Special Delivery services. This applies to all items posted from Wednesday 17th October. Sadly this does not include items posted from or into the Liverpool area because of unofficial industrial action.

We apologise for the disruption and inconvenience the strikes have caused, and are working hard to get the service back to normal as quickly as possible. There is a significant build up of mail that will take some time to clear, which we will deal with in the order in which we received it. We will reinstate guarantees and service promises for other products as soon as we feel able to honour them, and will continue to keep you informed as and when the situation develops.

Please call our customer service Helplines - 08457 950 950 for Business customers and 08457 740 740 for residential customers- for the latest details.

We will update this webpage with the latest information as and when it becomes available.

This all makes me wonder how the hell the Post Office can run something with this much trade flowing through it so unprofitably. I'm a great believer in certain vital things being centralised, like the PO, health and the railways, but looking into the background to the dispute, it seems that the PO should have competition because it looks like they simply don't deserve the monopoly.

Postby Trickyfied » Oct 17th, '07, 16:47

Some one must of heard my rants! Some of my parcels came today including my wonderful package from Mr Beard, thank you so much, you really hooked me up good :D PK rings a bit small for my club like hands but it is all greatly apretiated 8)
Just waiting on the Relic now....waiting....waiting....

I'm not gunning down the post office and I really dont mind waiting, BUT delivering ONE item at a time was a bit too much, when I know at least 6 items are in your depot.

Brick of bikes... still not arrived :(

Craig Browning wrote::lol: It would do you all so much good to actually have to WAIT for your stuff... in the good ole days it took 6-8 weeks minimum for the average delivery sometimes MONTHS if it was a more "unique" hand-made or large effects system.

 Such a spoilt lot we have become in this new generation

Nuts to that Craig! In one episode of "Dad's Army", someone is heard to complain that the war has caused the second post to be late!

Second post! It's been years now since they scrapped second post, and decided that meant they could deliver the morning post at 11am :x If my milkman can get us fresh milk every morning, rain or shine at 4.30am... grumble grumble grumble...

Perspective:

Usually, if NUMS sends out a parcel, First Class, it takes 1-3 working days to arrive.
If NUMS sends out a parcel as a 'standard parcel' it takes 2-3 working days.
If NUMS sends a 'signed for' (not guaranteed) it takes 1-3 working days.

Since the end of September, however, parcels are taking up to two weeks to arrive.

During the strike period, I was even told that 'You can send guaranteed delivery method to give it a boost, but we cannot guarantee them'.

Which to me, is a bit crazy.

It's not only affecting my business as a SENDER, but as a recipient too.

From the design & web site of things, I am awaiting cheques for freelance work which equate to a large amount of money. Cashflow is knackered. For a small business such as mine which is totally funded by myself with no loans or overdrafts, cashflow is vital. The business works 'hand to mouth' in a sense.

Very, very annoying. And proves to me once again that someone—such as Dickie Branstonpickle—could make a fortune by offering a reliable alternative to Royal Mail. Trouble is, as with any monopoly, they call call the shots. And for a long time they've had no competition.

At least things like passports etc. know the score, and use a third-party to deliver their stuff. Wise.

I do not wish to rub salt in anyone's wounds, but Mike Danata sent out Reel Magic #2 yesterday and I received my copy this morning. 8)

Purely down to 'testing the system' to see if customers are spinning me a yarn, I posted a parcel (only 2 decks of bikes) to myself on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Wednesday's parcel arrived on Thursday, I am still waiting for Monday's and Tuesday's. Weird.
