Well!

Escapology is a fascinating subject.

My advice to you would be to do something COMPLETELY different.

Houdini, obviously, would be your No.1 resource. But perhaps, bring the whole escapology thing into the 21st century — forget tradition!

We've all seen straightjacket escapes umpteen times... why not do something mad and crazy, like, a Duck™-taped sleeping bag escape or something?

Think different: the magic world deserves it.

If you want to get started in escapology, even if you want to do something new and radical, is get to know the basic concepts behind escapology. A good resource, as Seige suggested, would be Houdini, in particular try reading the older works like "Houdini on Magic" and "The Secrets Of Houdini" both published by Dover books and available from Amazon.co.uk.

Once you have understood the simple ideas behind escapology you can start doing your own thing and maybe push a few boundries but I would strongly suggest you get to know the basics first. Also pure escapology (ie lock picking and challenge escapes) takes a long time to perfect, just like anything so don't expect overnight results, You need to stick with it.

It's a fascinating subject though and something that is great fun to get stuck into (no pun intended!). All the best with your new project.

All the best,

Will Wood

If you're into lockpicking, David De-Vals lock picking book is great, I only have the first volume just now as I couldn't find the second one for a while. You can get it from www.day-industries.co.uk/magicbypost/ , well, you should be able to once there online shop is working. He also has a book 'The Escapology Secrets of David De -Val ' which you could get from www.topsecretmagic.co.uk/books.html#escapes . There's a lot of escapology stuff on that site, I don't have much escapology stuff yet, maybe someday when I actually have some money. I do have some handcuffs but that's about it.

I have written and re-written this post three times now, and can't help but say something rude.

So I won't say anything at all.
