Hi guys,

Im filming for ITV in a couple of weeks, doing street magic. Ive been asked to come up with some big visual things to perform on the telly, that can be set up previously if required.

Heres where you guys come in. I need some ideas! All ive got at the moment is to have a large vinyl sign printed up, hung from a building with a prediction on it.

Please help, as quickly as possible, as filming is due in about 2 weeks.

Ill post details of the shoot as well when I have a firm date, so if you want to come along to watch you can do!

Congrats on the TV appearance Mr Mark. Good luck with it. :D

I have no experience with this type of thing but thank you for giving me a worthwhile excuse to take a few moments away from work. These things help keep the imagination going. Especially when I should be working.

What type of magic is it going to be? Either way, since it's a 'street' type show what about having something slighty illegal or underground, like a graffiti prediciton or something.

Or a revelation involving a passing gang of loud chavs (or charvers as we call them in Newcastle).

Or maybe a version of OOTW with picutres of coppers/civvies. That's a bit street. Imagine asking a local chavvy criminal to see if his instinct can pick out the coppers.

Or a book test using a porn magazine.

Ok, maybe not that one.

Its not so much street magic in the Dynamo sense, because it just isnt my style. We are doing street magic becaus eht production costs are cheaper!!!

Also, on the other side of the coin, what is your opinion on having things set up to look good on Tv, that you wouldnt usually do in your performance?

Well that type of thing does happen. When I see things on TV that have massive preperation and would only work on camera it does make me think negatively about the magician. BUT to a layperson I don't think they would know the difference.

Osterlind has some fantastic stuff for tv. Id recomend his calculator effect from 'No camera tricks'. Random sepctators add up any numbers they want on an ungimmicked calculator and the number that comes out is one from a poster, shop sign, t shirt or anything in the nearby area!

Performing infront of a camera is different for a great many reasons. Don't not do something because you could not pull it off on/in another venue.

Film is the venue? Use the best stuff for film. Anybody tells you different, then ignore them. You got the gig, not them.
